Re: Exploring The Rolex Explorer
Fascinating article, Bernie. There is a popular myth that the watch worn on the 1953 expedition was called the Rolex Explorer. The article you linked that helps to debunk that myth.
The following article from the Daily Telegraph discusses the question of Tensing and his Rolex. He would not, as a Sherpa, have been given a watch by the Rolex company. This was a personal gift from Raymond Lambert, leader of the 1952 Swiss expedition.
And then, of course there is the whole question of Sir Edmund Hillary and the Smiths watch. The watch he claims to have taken to the summit is in the Clockmakers Museum in London. We know that Smiths also were supplying the British Everest and Antarctic expeditions in the 1950s. Perhaps Hillary wore one of his watches and carried the other in a pocket? Read this from Crown and Caliber.

Re: Exploring The Rolex Explorer
I'd like to see Rolex release a white dialled Explorer based on the albino shown in the Ross Povey article. I think Fratello did a mock-up picture pre-Basel this year.

Re: Exploring The Rolex Explorer
I am very tempted by the Explorer. I had a Smiths and liked it; but, it was very under the radar.
