Re: Vintage watch of the day (30 years+)
Bought this yesterday. I had seen it on a newsletter a week ago, the better of two 9 ct 1972 Omega Geneve watches with silvered 'linen' faces....this one had no 'foxing' or oxidation. It is in good condition and I particularly fell for the black insets on the batons which give it a certain crispness; it pleases my eye against the linen effect dial, the beauty of which is difficult to capture on a camera. It has an automatic 25 jewel '565' movement, and although only 34mm it 'wears' bigger; it is comparable in wrist presence to my 37mm Zenith Elite.
Of course, the last thing I thought of was setting the date accurately.
What a blessing! I combined the viewing and collection of the watch with a visit to my mother-in-law who lives near to the shop.

Quite interesting, but not a lot there...mostly they wanted old ration books and photo albums. The Marvin did get a couple of interested antiquarians admiring it, however.

Steve, I have an interest in military history and in the WW1 poets. I have been to a couple of WW1 events and come away feeling that the whole business has been somewhat trivialised. I get the impression that yours was a tad underwhelming, too.

Kevin, have you done a SOTC yet? It would be really great to see them all together.

I am going after another one currently it's an Accurist from 1958 in 9ct gold so once I have acquired that I will do a group and individual photos of my vintage collection.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote:Kevin, have you done a SOTC yet? It would be really great to see them all together.
