Strap Width Questions

Post by shef175 »

Hey all...just ordered my first CW during the January sale, a 38mm C60 Trident Bronze Pro 600, and I'm super excited about it. My question relates to strap changes. I ordered with the hybrid strap but I would like to order some other straps, either from CW or another company. Since my model has a 20mm lug width, could I make a 22mm strap still fit, depending on the strap material (NATO or raw edge leather)? Would a 22mm strap look too big on that size of case?

Lastly, any recommendations for straps with a bronze clasp?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on picking up your first CW! I was in the same position picking up my first CW watch, also a C60, in the December sale 3 years ago - and then joining the forum!

I think 22mm straps will be awkward to make fit and will look a little bit big for the 38mm C60. Your best bet would be to stick with 20mm straps. Try www.cheapestnatostraps.com

Thanks for the response! I've seen people on other sites talking about it with other watches, but they might have bigger cases so the 22mm matches a bit better. I'll just wait until it gets here to see how it fits and looks in person before I pull the trigger on another strap.

Hello and welcome. Whilst a wider strap might not look as bad as one that is too narrow, I would be a bit concerned that it might inhibit the spring bars from sitting properly. I've seen people shave the lug end of a strap but it doesn't look right. Stick with 20mm.

Cool, I'll just stick with 20mm. Also just realized there is a whole forum devoted to straps. I could have posted in there had I opened my eyes first...lol

Welcome to the forum and don't worry about posting in the wrong forum, topics can be moved by the Admin Team; as this one has been.

As to your question, in essence, stick with 20mm straps but if you use NATOs larger ones i.e. 22mm will fit for a different look.

Also, have a look around the Straps forum any you'll find plenty of suggestions for where to buy.

Good luck.

If you're looking for a strap that looks a bit wider, search for one that is flared at the lugs.
Something like this WatchGecko rubber ...

Thanks for letting me know about that site. Not buying that rubber strap but I found a couple of NATOs on there that I might end up buying in the future

I'd echo the advice above and say stick to 20mm - it's the perfect size. You have abundant choice so why muck about?

20mm size for certain !!

Try CW straps as their options include a bronze buckle on an additional pin and buckle strap purchase.

Also be mindful of the taper from the lugs to the buckle (often straps taper from 20mm lugs to 18mm at buckle. You will see this noted as 20/18). When sourcing an aftermarket strap, with the identical taper to your OEM strap, you can switch the existing bronze CW buckle over to your aftermarket.

That's a good idea to switch the existing bronze CW buckle to the aftermarket strap...I hadn't considered that. Thanks!
