Sad news. Condolences to you and your family. Sadly it seems there are lots of people who don’t or won’t understand the gravity of the pandemic.

I now have a non-covid, covid problem....
I was coughing over the weekend so had a covid test on Monday, which was negative. GP says it’s viral bronchitis which can take 2-3 weeks to settle down. My problem is I’m going to be food shopping in the next few weeks with a cough, and I’m a bit worried about (a) worrying people, or (b) getting overtly negative reactions..... there doesn’t seem any way around it but to explain with patience where I need to - or maybe just tie a note round my neck!

If people don’t like you coughing thats their problem let it go in one ear and out the other

^^Thanks! I've just got a delivery slot for some groceries, that'll mean I can avoid the shops for a wee while at least!

We'll watch the news though, in case you're clapped in irons.
Seriously, though wishing you a speedy recovery. It won't be pleasant going out in the cold with bronchitis.

As above, speedy recovery MissF and when/if you do need to go out I wouldn't bother at all about other people's reactions.

A Barry Cryer joke: Back in the day, you would cough to cover up a fart. Now you fart to cover up a cough.
Not sure if this is helpful to you.
