I have been impressed how, at least on the public front, there has been very little infighting between the Labour and tory parties.
Its good to see in these difficult and challenging times people putting differences aside for the greater good.

I’m expecting the arrival of two footycrazy straps this morning, so I left a note for the postie asking him to leave the parcel outside.
I’ve just been out to pick up my meds that we’re dropped off from the pharmacy and I found a note from my neighbour (who I’ve never met) saying Hello neighbour! Write a list of anything you need from the shops and I’ll get it for you.

While the greedy are busy insider share dealing or selling CV tests for massive profits, most people are just wanting to reach out.

Something to lighten the mood a bit...

Heard a Dr. on TV saying in this time of Coronavirus staying at home we should focus on inner peace.
To achieve this we should always finish things we start and we all could use more calm in our lives.
I looked through my house to find things i'd started and hadn't finished, so I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of Chardonnay, a bodle of Baileys, a butle of wum, tha mainder of Valiumun srciptuns, an a box a chocletz. Laid off yesterday and seriously worried about the future being self-employed
...spending today making numerous phone calls and emails.

At least I have my health (atm) albeit my stress levels are through the roof....and breathe!

@StrapMeister - Commiserations Nigel. Hope it works out for you in the long term.

One of my next door neighbours is a self-employed photographer, working for corporate and celebrity clients.

All appointments in his diary for the next few months, at least to July, evaporated a couple of weeks ago. He's scuppered.

Fortunately, his wife is the School secretary in a local Primary School, so bringing some funds in.

My other next door neighbours are a retired couple in their mid-eighties. The current good weather means they are busy in their garden, but they are, worryingly, ambivalent to the current situation.

Yes it's all very worrying and stressful for those that are self-employed or freelance.
However, help is out there and Companies (including HMRC) are doing everything they can to help out.

My other half (also self-employed) and I work very well as a team.
We've had a successful day sorting things out.
We've managed to put things into place so that we'll be ok for the next 3 months.
What a relief [-o<

All the best Nigel for resolving the current situation. It does sound like the government are going to announce more measures to help the self employed in the next day or two.

I guess many of us are in the "baton down the hatches" mode (minimise any expenditure you can to compensate for our income inevitably falling) for the next few months in the hope/ expectation things will return to some semblance of normality at some point.

The fact the government is borrowing heavily to support the economy is worrying however I think it is the correct/only choice they have. At least if the vast majority of jobs and companies are saved then most people will have jobs left at the current crisis is over. Yes we will be in another period of austerity for a number of years, probably income/corporation/other tax will have to rise by x% accordingly but that is probably an acceptable scenario in the current landscape.
