I need to send a watch to Germany for repair - anyone have any recommendations (value c.£1000) for this?
Thanks
Neil

Re: Posting a watch to Germany
Not sure whether this is feasible in your case, but I contacted the AD where I bought my Alpina who arranged the return of my watch for me.
I offered to pay, but was told it wasn't necessary.
If the AD route isn't possible, perhaps it's something that the manufacturer may be able to arrange, then invoice you?
You could call/email and explain the situation. Worst they can say is that it's not possible.

Unfortunately, unless you have ParcelPro or some such 3rd party insurer, it's a courier like DHL or FedEx, which will be expensive.
You could always risk Royal Mail International Tracked and Signed For, which has never failed me yet, but you won't be covered for loss or damage.

Do double check on the regulars such as FedEx, DHL, UPS etc as when I enquired about posting a watch abroad, none of them covered watches.
Watches were noted in their exclusions list, but I also rang and confirmed with all of them.

Thanks for the replies - I'm inclined to use Royal Mail International Tracked and Signed For....

I use GLS to ship from Germany to the UK and thy do have UK coverage with insurance options:
"GLS is liable for loss or damage of parcels in its custody. Liability is limited to a maximum amount, varying from country to country, and does not include consequential damages like loss of profit. If the sender takes out no transport insurance, GLS will compensate the value of the goods beyond the limitation of liability up to a defined maximum depending on the country. Value of the goods is defined as the purchase price, for second-hand goods the current value or for goods dispatched on occasion of an auction the auction price, depending on which amount is the lowest in the individual case. You can find further information in the terms and conditions of your country."
I have found them pretty good, two day delivery and better than DHL which is the default from here.
I would also agree that Royal Mail Tracked and signed for is reliable, but insurance is the issue, £250 is the max.
