Anyone here updated to macOS Mojave yet?

If so, any thoughts on it.

Here's a UK review of it from PC Magazine:

"Even in its first public beta, it's clear that Mojave is the best macOS upgrade in years, with dozens of new conveniences for managing documents and media files, an elegant new Dark Mode, and better security and privacy protection."

I’ve been using it for a while and it’s fine and stable and (maybe my imagination but) I swear some of the repetitive things I have to do seem quicker. Visually there’s not much difference, it’s more a collection of small conveniences as mentioned in the quote above. Dark mode is a welcome addition imo. Even the developer betas were stable so you can bet the public release is rock solid.

I'll have to take a look. Normally I am not keen on OS upgrades, lots of things to go wrong and don't like getting to grips with lots of new stuff.

I’m curious as to what kind of hardware those who have upgraded are running it on. I’ve got a 2007 iMac that has already hit a wall with supported OS upgrades. No big deal though, as I primarily use it as just a media server on my home network.

My primary computer is a 2012 MacBook Pro. It’s supported, but it’s still old. Just because it can handle the upgrade doesn’t necessarily mean it will handle it well.

Anyone have some thoughts to share on this?

Added note: I’m considering maxing out the RAM and swapping the hard drive for an SSD harddrive to extend the life of my MBP. Anyone have experience doing this?

Upgrading to an SSD shouldn't be too hard, iFixit has a number of tutorials on various Apple devices. I'm using a 2012 Mac Mini, and will probably upgrade to the combination SSD/harddrive in the near future.

Whilst it is a Windows not a Mac, I've just bought my daughter a new laptop with an SSD hard drive, the speed of booting up etc is almost instantaneous when compared to my older Dell XPS. SSD seems the way forward.

Another vote for SSD as a main drive.

Whilst I'm a Windows / Android user I've got an SSD main drive in my PC with an HDD drive for data (music, photos, documents etc.), plus I've updated my i5 laptop by fitting an SSD. The difference is like night & day.

Moreover, I'd advocate that SSDs have now been around for long enough that 1. they are reliable and 2. cost has come down to a reasonable level.

That’s pretty much why I’m considering it now!

I know there’s a kit available that allows for swapping out the optical drive for a harddrive. I think I’ll do a hybrid/magnetic drive combo - SSD for running the OS and magnetic drive for data storage.
