Mid-life crisis, challenge, bucket-list or life-long dream?
Re: Mid-life crisis, challenge, bucket-list or life-long dream?
After what has felt like an extremely long wait (but is actually one month since I passed my test), I was finally able to collect the bike today. Needless to say, I'm very pleased with it and looking forward to getting to know it over the coming days, weeks and months.
Early days but it feels well balanced and quite eager. A couple of rubbish pictures in the fading light of mid-afternoon...

Not that I know much (anything) about them, but nice looking bike.
That digital display very cool as well, I guess analogue is so 20th century now.

Quite a sporty little number there Richard.
As Patrick mentioned the Digital Dash is pretty neat; like the fact the Rev Counter is given prominence in the display.
Enjoy riding it.

Thanks guys. The TFT digital display is excellent and was certainly one of the features that attracted me to this bike. The standard display is a mix of analogue and digital (see below), and - unsurprisingly for BMW... - the TFT is an optional extra.
This is the standard:
The TFT display offers some basic navigation (when paired with a phone) and also facilitates phone calls and music, which are probably against the whole ethos of traditional motorcycling. For me, the clarity was the selling point.

Great looking bike Richard. Being on my second 4 wheeled BMW now, I would deffo lean towards the brands 2 wheel offerings, were I in the market for a midlife crisis!
Steve.

That looks pretty cool
Be careful, Ride safe.
I've been riding since '79 but the best thing I ever did was 2 years ago when I took my RoSPA Advanced Motorcycling test - learnt more doing that than the 30 odd years of riding believe it or not.

Re: Mid-life crisis, challenge, bucket-list or life-long dream?
^^ Sorry I'm a little late to the party here, but just to echo Nigel's sentiment. Although I've not actually taken a IAM or RoSPA set of training, I can thoroughly recommend any BikeSafe course held by the local Police. I beleive it's a national scheme of a couple of weekends at the local police station going through the police roadcraft riding processes followed by an observed ride. All free, educational and entertaining. Given that our local boys in blue are some of the best riders out there, it's a great opportunity to continue the education after learning to pass the test. Similar schemes are run for car drivers too.
Great choice on the F750 by the way. Just to put something out there- if you don't need to, there's no shame in SORN'ing the bike over the winter months, and no medals for riding in rubbish conditions. Just be aware that you'll be very rusty after your winter hibernation and take it easy, concentrating on the basics.

^^ Yep, further training is definitely on the agenda in the new year. Right now, I am taking every opportunity to get out on the bike and get familiar with it - building my confidence and gaining a little more experience. In the past week I have covered a little over 200 miles, in short trips of 25-50 miles, and all in pretty decent weather.
Yesterday I popped over the border into Wales, and absolutely loved the ride.
Only downside... the bike is not quite as clean as it was...
Although I will admit to washing it twice already....

(Apologies to DerekMc but I couldn't resist it - and also apologies to Richard as I wouldn't expect him to treat his bike in any other way than how he treats his watches, that is with the utmost care and attention).
PS - why do some quoted replies show the control characters ?
Re: Mid-life crisis, challenge, bucket-list or life-long dream?
^^^ @Mikkei4... You will not be surprised to see that I cleaned up your untidy control-character-laden post.
As I was posting the picture of the dirty bike, I was also reflecting on the 'anal retentive' post. Guilty as charged.
