Having passed my driving test in 1972, my first car purchase was a 1960 Mini Van.

Whilst the least luxurious car I have ever owned it is the one that I have most fondness for.

Mine was APJ644B so I guess it must have been a 1964. Really modern compared to yours Scooter!

Robin

I remember that it cost me £80 and the engine was 948cc.

Within 6 months of purchase my girlfriend and I did a tour of Devon, Cornwall and North Somerset.

We slept on a blow up airbed in the back of the van with two 1 gallon petrol cans on either side of us. The petrol tank leaked if more than 2 gallons in it.

We spent the nights at Carbis Bay, Gwithian, Carbis Bay (again), Newquay, Bude, Westward Ho and Dunster.

That was in 1973 and I can remember it as if it were yesterday.

Two cars which are completely different, so certainly an odd choice to have.

If you can do the Bentley then go for it. Should be pretty deprecation proof (except the dealer margin), but watch out for repairs.

As has been said above, this will all be offset by the MUCH higher depreciation on the newer Jag. Go for it!!

The top VED bracket is only £550 / year.

Just realised your calc is for two years.
Still not a lot compared to depreciation on a 1 year old Jag.

Yes I know - my figures were based on two years' of ownership.

Jaguar depreciation is a real concern particularly if you buy new.

The XF Portfolio I'm looking at was first registered in Nov. 2017. and has 5900 miles on the clock. The asking price is £25950. After calculating the costs of all the extras listed the new price would have been £43500. That really is an unacceptable rate of depreciation.
