The lack of high rise in Lanzarote has a lot to do with the influence of the aforementioned architect, Cesar Manrique. He was very much against the island being developed in that way. There is only one proper high rise building in Lanzarote, a modern hotel on the sea front in Arrecife. We went to the rooftop bar & restaurant the last time we visited the island, great views. I'd recommend to Steve if he has the chance to go.
