I've always liked F1 and never really watched "US" motorsport. That said after the boring procession of Monaco, there was more excitement in the 20 mins of the Indy 500 that I had a chance to see. Might try and watch it a bit more often.

Let's not forget Honda still won and with a Japanese driver, so the Fernando story to an extent wasn't a disaster as it still pulled in so much more publicity than in previous years.

My Rally Barbados in pictures
Arrived, coolant pushing into the overflow bottle, head gasket gone, head warped, off at lunch time, machined and back on by 5am

Seeding event, 14th out of a field of 90 in challenging conditions

Fantastic first stage on Saturday morning then it failed, we knew the block was warped as well but thought it wasn't bad enough that the gasket couldn't seal.
In the shop (alone)

I may be out there with you competing next year. As usual I have friends over there competing. Andrew Costin-Hurley in the EARLS Puma (story below) and Paul Rees in an Astra (the chap who took me out the first time when I sat with Ian Wee Wee Warren in the 0 car.
The last time I did it we also had an all nighter on the car, well I didn't. Broken half shaft that was bespoke and so a new half shaft had to be fabricated /bodged over night for restart the next day.
It's nothing like UK rallying.

Not well, it's 10 minutes before he Sunday morning drivers briefing and I'm sat in the airport waiting for a flight to go home, not a happy chappy.Proco2020 wrote:

It failed at the end of the first stage Saturday morning, still managed 11th quickest (behind the WRC cars and the 2WD rockets), parked it and went for beers.
The repair was last week prior to the seeding event, we knew when we fixed the head that there was a very slight warp in the block but thought it would make it. It's an all steel, high compression engine at 2bar of boost and tolerances real have to be exact to get the most out of those Evo engines. Oh well, R5 here we come!

It'll probably be the Puma as every year Andrew C-H asks me back, but you never know I may find something else to sit in or just come out for the social.
Bad luck though, I feel your pain.
Currently doing prep for airfield event next weekend and then two weeks away the Ypres Rally both in an R2 Fiesta.
Are you getting an R5? What type, a Fiesta? I've been fortunate to sit in a 1.6 WRC Fiesta and was amazed at the braking, and it was in gravel spec on tarmac. Did an event many years ago in a Subaru S8 and again amazed by the braking.

IIRC current IRC champion car and sibling to the Polo WRC. Regularly runs in the top 10 on WRC rounds.

So looks like my competitive year is on hold. I've competed on 8 events this season, including 5 rounds of the British Rally Championship, and I've run out of annual leave (except for 11 days to go away with the wife).
I'm currently 2nd Co-driver in the Cadet Class of the BRC but will slip down the rankings, but I was only competing as a mentor rather than to win anything.
Last event was the Nicky Grist Stages in Builth Wells and we were leading the class by 3 minutes until the clutch went on the Sunday leg 3 stages from the end. It's not how the season was supposed to end.
I'm very certain I'll pick up some more events before the year is out, as long as I don't need leave, and this weekend I'm running a scenic tour in Berkshire and Oxfordshire so not getting to far away from cars.
I've had a brilliant season from March to July and have loved every second skimmimg across tarmac and gravel, and falling out of a Belgium Bar at 7:30am after the Ypres Rally.
In September I'll be running the Feature Stage at Castle Combe in Wilts as part of Rally Day, a show not to be missed if you want to get up close to some great rally cars.

So since my last update I’ve run the feature stage at Castle Combe and been the Motor Sport Association’s nominated representative (MSA Steward) at two events.
This week it’s Wales Rally GB, Britain’s round of the WRC, and I’m managing the driver I was sat with earlier in the season. What that means for me is making sure the event runs smoothly outside the car so that he and the codriver he’s working with now can concentrate on driving fast without worrying about the minutiae of the event. It’ll be something different for me.
No competitive plans for next season yet but who knows what’s round the corner, I don’t have pacenotes for everything.

Sorry but only just seen this thread/subject.
I'm a keen Motorsport fan of pretty much anything but I find BTCC akin to bumper cars so am not as keen to watch it as most other forms of Motorsport.
I also Marshall for HDLCC at Loton Park for their hillclimb events and a VSCC event there too and Chateau Impney.

BTCC is as my entry drug to the world of Motorsport back in the 90’s but tend to not watch it too much these days due to the poor driving standards.
Chateau Impney interests me as a venue.

There's only 1 Motorsport event at the chateau each year. The Vintage Sports Car Club visit there towards the end of the year/season around September time. It was reinstated 2/3 years ago following time off over and since the war. I'll dig out the date for 2018 and let you know.
