Motorsport - Forum Interest?

Post by Proco2020 »

So looking at a few profiles and posts there seem to be a few of us interested in or participate in motorsport.

I'm heavily involved in rallying, competing as a co-driver (over 200 events in a number of different cars from historic Mini to Subaru WRC) and organising events as a Clerk of the Course and other roles including radio and stage marshal.

I'm also a MSA Steward so am fortunate to attend all branches of motorsport including Karting, Speed events and Racing, plus organise an annual classic tour based in Oxfordshire.

I'll post some photo's later.

So what's your name and where do you come from, what's your interest?

I did Historic stage rallying around 1998 to 2001.
I was a navigator in an ex-works Alpine Renault A110 and later went rallying myself as the driver in my 1968 Wolseley Hornet.
Would love to do it again but the money is insane now sadly.
Also interested in F1.
Oh Ferg from Cork in Ireland.

I'm from Frome, home of Jenson Button so have followed him since 2000. That apart my interest waned when Michael Schumacher retired having been a fan for his entire F1 career.

Have watched all forms of motor sport since the 60s on television and particularly loved scrambling on a Saturday afternoon in the 60s with Jeff Smith, Dave Bickers, Arthur Lampkin and The Rickmans.

My main love these days are Irish road racing along naturally with the IoM TT.

I also follow predominately Motogp and BSB.

I enjoy the Rallying as well.

Nice photos mate, the MK2 Escort is a fantastic rally car.
Yes I must say I was very privileged to be picked as the navigator for the Alpine. The owner is a good friend and I was mainly picked for my physique......as you have to be a short bloke to fit lol
I think his Alpine won the Acropolis Rally in either 1970 or 1971.

I've co-driven in a Stratos replica a couple of times and I had to cant my head over, rolling wasn't worth thinking about.

They're very sexy rally cars and when ever I'm at an event where they compete I snap a few photo's.

Was it John Rutter's?

I used to navigate 'plot and bash' in the 70's mostly Kent and Sussex events. I've driven in Autotests, 12 car rallies and a couple of hill climbs in the same period.
I built my own GTM Libra and did a lot of track days in that, mostly weekends at Zolder. This was at Bruntingthorpe:

I also worked as a rally instructor for Vision Motorsport on their experience days:

But now do no motorsport at all - I was even thinking of being a Billy on a Goodwood event the other day!
Billy - Noun, rhyming slang Billy Bunter - Punter.
There's always time for one more.

Not John, I know him and we've shared drivers a couple of times. It was Dave Watson who he used to co-drive for.

Almost bought an original GTM last year but it would have needed to much work to get on the road.

I am from NZ, and follow Motorsport.
