It might be wise not to add to these tales of motoring shenanigans, especially if they didn’t involve your current significant other

I should apologise for taking the thread in a certain (maybe inappropriate) direction! Anyway, Minis, great cars and I still wish Id got one instead of the Type R, maybe time for some man maths and excuse to spend hours trawling the web in research!

My Dad's first 'car' in 1966 was a Mini van with a seat in the back. I 'drove' it round Tatton Park as a child with Dad working the pedals. As a family of four, we all slept in it on a trip to Cornwall once when we couldn't find a B&B on the way down. We had a fortnight's luggage in with us too! As a result of that experience, I've never owned a car that i couldn't sleep comfortably in! Which also avoided the kind of contortions described above!

I later drove a Mini van when I worked for the NHS on occasions. With a 1000cc engine and not interior fittings other than two seats, it could beat anything away from the traffic lights. A really fun car around town - especially as it wasn't mine.
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left

When I picked up my latest MINI last year, it was a dealer stock car so I had no input into the spec.
You could have added colour coded dash parts and door armrests to match the colour of the seats.
Sadly I didn't have this so mine came as dark grey.
I found out that I could buy the door armrests afterwards from MINI so when they arrived I thought it would be a simple pop off the old armrests and pop on the new ones.......however it was much more complicated a job so I left it for over a year to build up the courage to do it.

Well I tackled it today.........
To be honest I wouldn't have gone to this trouble if I had known how difficult it was a job to do.
Just to recap, you have to drill out the plastic welds holding on the door armrest which is also the part that holds the window switch and the speaker surround.
Then you got the new part and melt the plastic posts down to create a solid weld.

I only got one side done as it took me ages.

I hadn't time to take photos of the actual job but the last photo shows the driver's side how it was before as such, big difference !

End result it fantastic though !
Really changes the look of the car inside.

Hopefully tackle the other side tomorrow.

Well done Ferg. Sounds like a tricky job but looks to be well worth it in the end.

A definite improvement, Ferg - although I must say it sounds like a bit of a painful process.

Well and truly worth the effort Ferg. Top notch.

Having done one, and you've learnt what is required, I'm sure the other one will be much easier to do.

Looking forward to final photos.

Driver's side done now so all finished :)

Thrilled with the final look, I think it transforms the car.

Looks good Ferg, sets off well with the seats (love that quilted leather). Sounds like quite hard work but definitely worth doing.

Gave my MINI a full detail exterior and interior between yesterday and today.
Very happy with how it turned out.
