Even if I didn't know him personally, I'm sad too.

I hope this leaving is not the sign of new politics of prices rising and new mentality.

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere on the forum, it made interesting reading for me and may answer hyperion's questions. Mike France is the front man and is aiming high.

An interesting read, shame they didn't have a proof reader check it before publication - they might have spotted that the C60 Bronze pictured wasn't the GMT as stated.

Far from the run of the mill watch industry article - very well written and illuminating.

Interesting article. Thanks for posting it. Maybe you should also post this in the General Discussion or the Reviews and articles sub-fora too.

A turnover of £200 million in the future? - so somewhere in the region of 15- 20 times the current level of sales (if we take the oft quoted number of 20,000 pa and assume an average price of around £600 per watch).

£200 million but in a Nearly New sale kind of way.

So £80 million

Not to be sniffed at though!

The CW brand is responsible for getting me hooked on watches, an interest that has given me countless hours of enjoyment. For that I’m grateful to Mr. Ward. The interaction with fans through the forum, with chats, forum limited editions, forum watch of the year etc, made us feel connected to the brand in a very special way.

CW were among the first serious watch brands, maybe the first, to use the Internet to sell watches, which opened the brand up to customers world wide. An astute and brave move that paid off.

Chris Ward was the public face of the company, a role he fulfilled with aplomb. His wife Wera was the embodiment of the great personal service the company rightly took great pride in. I wish them all the best for the future. Thank you both.

Any comment on his successor? Or is this just a step down with no replacement. Would like to hear any information on the direction of the brand moving forward. A job well done for CW himself on establishing a great brand doing things that very few other brands can compete with.

Yes, a lot of sales hyperbole from Mike France there. All the buzzwords you can throw at it...."we really are at the tipping point", "it's a very exciting time" "I think we'll see hyper growth". Watches are likes shoes, we'll always want them and we'll always buy them, but we're not going to be buying 15-20 times more than we do today. It is not that kind of a market.

Can you imagine him quoting those sorts of numbers/growth optimism on Dragons Den?! He would laughed off.

Chris always seemed humble and trusted as a 'man at the top'. Not sure I'd trust someone who spouts this sort of tripe, just to generate some interest. He is becoming a someone who actually appears to believe his own waffle.

Yes I sound bitter: the last 3-4 customer experiences with them were utterly abysmal.

Very ambitious indeed, but worth remembering that the 3 amigos were all very successful in business before starting their watch company, Mike and Peter sold the ELC for GBP62m. I think he may have good reason to believe his own 'waffle'.

A Lasting Legacy - Important News from Christopher Ward

Transparency seems to have been lost. I know I would not be happy being ousted from the Company that used my name!

We need to know what and why Chris has left. We don’t need specifics but more than what is currently given via the press release!
