Forum Upgrade

Post by Kip » Fri Jan 20, 2017 1:08 pm

The forum is now 11 years old and looking a bit outdated. In that time we have actually done little more than a few security updates and had 1 header change.

The time has come for us to correct this and bring us up to date. Along with the team at CW we have been working on a few changes over the last few months. We are now ready to move forward.

The forum will be undergoing a full security upgrade and a new coat of paint. In order to do this properly we will need to be offline.

On Monday January 23, 2017 at approx 9:00am GMT (4:00 am EST) we will go offline to process the necessary upgrades. Best case is we will be off for about 90 minutes. Worst case (we hope) is about 4 hours.

We have been doing extensive testing and are hoping the shorter time will prevail.

The Admin Team thanks you for your patience during this process and hope you find it worth the effort.

Counselors and meds will be made available to those that need help with withdrawal. :help:

Thanks, Kip.

I hope it's not some extreme change to a "modern", more social-media-conscious forum software with really different and funky layouts/interfaces.

A non-watch forum I visit went through that and there were lots of upset members who hated the new interface.

Sounds good Kip.

Will there be an option to open clicked links in a new tab? It is tiresome having to remember to press CTRL before clicking on links to avoid exiting the forum.

Surely if you 'right click' with your mouse, your browser will then give you the opportunity to 'open link in new tab'.

I use this frequently.

Yes, sure. But why not have a switch that I can elect to open a new tab. And on mobile, it's a total PITA.

It can be a property of the underlying URL definition...therefore not requiring users to do anything...
