"Should the highly challenging Tajikistan Expedition 2013 be successful, the newly conquered peak will be formally named ‘Mount Christopher Ward’!"

Whilst I applaud CWL in sponsoring this valiant expedition I'm assuming that this is a tongue in cheek comment. If not I would love to know what the legal position is for Chris to declare this. Has this been discussed and cleared with the authorities in Tajikistan?

I'm not sure that the Welsh authorities would be keen for example on naming one of their Beacons in Zaban-è-Pārsī because a group of walkers from Tajikistan sauntered up it on a chilly day.

Is 'Mount Christopher Ward' some sort of odd command?

I love it.

Or maybe we'll be seeing a CW with a bit of polished mountain on the dial - like an Omega meteorite - http://www.omegawatches.com/press/press-kit-text/1305

It's only jealousy 'cos they named a mountain after the Smiths Everest...can't let TF get away with that!

I'm maybe missing the point here and happy to be wrong but is this just four guys and CWL brushing their egos, or is there any good cause coming from this for eg children's cancer charities getting a hand.

Here's a suggestion and this is surely a way to raise public awareness of your brand ,make a limited edition small amount say 25 watches and put them up for auction. You could use your contacts at the BBC to get some coverage with all the proceeds going to a deserving charity.

Or how about getting the members to donate some cash if these guys make it ,then that can go to charity with a bit of local advertising of the event and an auction by CWL to help raise much required donations.

Don't miss this opportunity to do something meaningful!

Thanks Kip, that seems to have been a quiet update to the website dated 6th August. I thought there'd have been much fanfare to celebrate the team reaching the summit. Well done to all involved.

Can someone explain how the name change is becoming official? I am having the same dificulty as some guys around here understanding how a montain climb would grant it.

Does CWL have a understanding with local governament or what?

Anyway, Congratz to the team and glad to see there is no mention of any accident.

Cheers,
Sifion.

I think it's more likely to be a symbolic act in recognition of the sponsorship, to gain a bit of publicity. I don't think it'll be an official renaming of the mountain. Quite prepared to be corrected, but I'd be surprised.
