My Kingfisher arrived

Post by Hans »

Today my KF arrived... I don't know why, but in a way I wasn't expecting too much of it. After wearing it for a few hours, I don't know where to begin, I'm speechless......

This is a teaser if there ever was one. ;)

Go ahead, tell us what you think. How does it compare to your Wolex? ;)

I want to do this watch justice, so I want to wear the watch a bit longer before I'll share all my impressions. But my first impressions are good, very good, I really wasn't expecting this. I am totally in love with this one, but I should stop now, maybe in a few days the love will cool down.

In a few days I will post an elaborate review with lots of pictures, but here is a first snapshot:

Come on, Hans... you're teasing us.

I know you too well to know that your first impression never is too far off. :D
I made you want to have a Red Peregrine... now you make me want a quartz Kingfisher. The SWS, in fact.

Congratulations Hans,

It looks very nice.
I am not very fond of rubber straps, but this one looks great.
Still i wonder what will be my next Kingfisher beside the LE, but this yellow one makes a very good chance.
The bright yellow with the black strap and the blue second is a very nice combination.
I'm looking forward to see your next pictures.

OK... that settles it. The SWS is mine.

I can see why you (and Joe, who should by now be tickled way beyond his tolerance threshold) go for the yellow-face one... but based on your assessment, the white-faced is mine. I don't scuba-dive anymore (silly at my age and physical condition). If I would have needed a scuba diver's watch, it might've been either the SYSI or the SOSI.

I also thought the white dial was the most beautifull KF.
But when I see this yellow one I have to make up my mind again.

Not only does it look great... but it feels great. I also wasn't too fond of rubber straps, al my Seiko divers have rubber straps. But this strap is great, it is very flexible, not too thick, and fits the case very, very precisely.

I don't care what you guys order together with the LE Kingfisher, the monotone SS-bracelet, duo-tone bracelet, leather strap, order what you want, but you should certainly consider ordering an extra rubber strap!

Well, for one thing: if I compare the bezels, the KF bezel feels more solid and rotating the bezel feels more 'precise'. But that's not an entirely fair comparison, my Rolex GMT is not a diver, maybe the bezel of the Rolex Submariner feels more like the KF bezel...

One last remark and then I will try to cool down:

I was afraid the watch would be a bit too big for my wrist, but the lugs have a very nice curvature that follows my the rounding of my wrist very nicely, together with the soft rubber strap it wears like a glove. If you hold the KF in your hand it feels heavy, if you wear it on your wrist it simply feels awesome.

I can see why that would be.

Im my case, it's merely because:
- I've already got one 'in-yer-face-coloured' CW watch already (the Peregrine Red)
- I'm awaiting a second one (the KF LE, which will be 'in-yer-face' blue)
- I'm still hoping for a yellow/black Peregrine, which I think would be Da Bomb.

Therefore, my non-LE Kingfisher of choice would be the SWS.

I think that's a very good reason to buy more than one KF.
The choose of colour is very hard, so maybe it's a good compromise to buy several colours with several straps and bracelets.

First I have to think how to tell this cautious to my wife..........

I've got news for ya: the Rolex GMT bezel and the Rolex Submariner bezel 'feel' exactly the same.

Based on what you say here, the Kingfisher bezel and the C4 Red bezel feel exactly the same too.
That would mean that the Kingfisher bezel would be the best diver's bezel that I have felt...

I have found that, while the C4 bezel is solid, yet easy, to set, it is unlikely to be set accidentally. When I *did* do scuba-diving, I owned a Seiko Pro Diver. The way in which the C4 bezel operates puts the Seiko Pro Diver to shame... and, to a point, the Submariner as well. To put it plainly: the C4's bezel is very positive, and very hard to reset accidentally. At this price point, this property is unparalelled.

If the C6 bezel is anywhere near as good, it's prolly the same bezel mechanism as on the C4, for that is as close to perfection as I have seen.
