That’s almost like two different watches now. I mean, it’s not simply that it looks good on different straps, but that the switch from the Tiber leather to the black & red hybrid completely transforms it.JasperCat wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 1:56 pmIt looked ok, but I think it looks much better on the black/red hybrid![]()
I did the reverse yesterday... moved my C8 PR from it's tan tiber leather strap (which looks good anyway being a pilot watch) onto the black/red hybrid... changes the look of the watch and I think works like your AM GT. The colour scheme on both dials are quite similar![]()

Thanks, I Agree

That's one of the reasons I went for the stainless steel rather than the black DLC. In black, it's a pilot watch... gorgeous but would only ever work on the leather or webbing straps and in "earthy" colours (camel, brown, tan). With this it does indeed get transformed. I feel the same happens with this AM GT... looks great on either, but I wouldn't consider either watch to then be "formal" watches.

Re: AM GT makeover
It sure does and of course with AM GT, you have the added advantage of a bracelet option too, as you sayjkbarnes wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 5:50 pmOne of the things I like about the C65 AM GT LE is that different straps don’t just look good on it, they can transform it! The AM GT on a bracelet feels and looks like a fundamentally different watch than when it’s on a strap. Same holds true for that leather strap vs. the hybrid. It’s exactly as you say - two for one!

Re: AM GT makeover
I never considered what you mention about black DLC, but I think you’re completely right. And yes, the AM GT LE can be transformed the same way. With that one though, I think it’s the switch from strap to bracelet that transforms the watch. It’ll never be formal though!JasperCat wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 2:07 pmThanks, I Agree

Re: AM GT makeover
Fortunately I have other watches on bracelets, so the C8 PR is really a specialist work or relaxing watch. Bizarrely, when things return to normal and I can get back into the simulator, I'll likely wear the C8 PR on the hybrid... the leather look is great for old cockpits but against the glowing EFIS screens it would look a little out of place... there's not an awful lot of "old style" gauges in here anymore and certainly no leatherjkbarnes wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 2:13 pmI never considered what you mention about black DLC, but I think you’re completely right. The little touches of red are so subtle it works beautifully on both. Sometimes a little inspiration is all you need to discover something new. I keep looking at my box to see what other combos I can try, but I only have a couple of QR straps and want to avoid scratches.

Re: AM GT makeover
Thanks, this was actually taken early last year before lockdown and unfortunately the sims have been sitting almost unused since then

Well spotted... there are indeed a few dotted around, but they're becoming more rare with each iteration... I find most general aviation pilots are surprised to find that even the backup artificial horizon is in fact a small screen now

Re: AM GT makeover
I was involved in a cockpit modernization project at one point (on the aircraft in my SOTC). They replaced almost everything with three multifunction video screens. It took a while for the pilots in the working group to wrap their heads around the configuration. It was actually pretty interesting because the pilot had the ability for some customization because all three screens were capable of displaying the same stuff. You set them up in the configuration that worked for you.

Re: AM GT makeover
Ok whilst I do not like the AM GT on that brown strap, the speedy looks super on a variety of straps. The AM does not lend itself well to other colour schemes, the red is very difficult to match with anything other than black/grey
Been a CW enthusiast a while now, currently loving my 40mm Bronze Ombre
Re: AM GT makeover
Wow.... I still find it amazing how long those U2s have been flying, so I suppose a cockpit upgrade (along with many other things I suspect) would be beneficialrkovars wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 7:47 pmI was involved in a cockpit modernization project at one point (on the aircraft in my SOTC). It does take a while to get used to going from "old school" gauges to MFDs. The displays on the B737-800 and A320 can pretty much be set to display any or all the information and have reversionary backup capability if one or more fail
