CW titanium watches - have you owned one?

Post by Dilbert »

Have you owned a CW titanium watch, or seen one in the metal?

Christopher Ward's website uses professional photography – beautiful, but it's hard to tell the finishing and colour shade under non-studio lighting. In real life, what's the titanium like? How's it finished? I've seen some Oris Titan watches with polishing that makes them look almost like steel, but many other Ti watches appear dark (e.g. Steinhart). How does CW's titanium compare?

I do have a Mk3 C60 Elite and a Tissot T Touch, both titanium. The Tissot is highly polished and bright where as the C60 is a brushed, slightly grey titanium. My preference is for the C60 Titanium. It's light and comfortable and looks good

This is a CW titanium bracelet temporarily on my Abyss. The snow helps show the true colour of the titanium

In my experience they are usually very comfortable and obviously light. I had several Seiko’s in titanium and the only drawback is that they scratch & mark quite badly when compared to 316L steel.

I prefer titanium (more comfortable) over steel. While I know titanium can attract scratches, I've found it varies by the watch. Some scratch like hell. But my Tutima Di300 scratched less than steel watches I'd owned. (Tutima's titanium craft is exceptional  .) A titanium Oris marked, only to return looking like new after a service. I gather CW doesn't refinish watches as part of servicing them - disappointing - but suppose an independent watchmaker could refinish titanium if needs be.

Thanks, and the bracelet's brushed finish looks like it should hide any scratches.

I have three CW Titanium watches.
The first ever Titanium CW released, the C11 Titanium Elite.
The C60 Trident Titanium V2.
And the C60 Elite GMT 1000.
All are a bit different in feel, the C11 I personally think is quite weighty, still less than SS though.
The C60 V2 is PVD Black coated case and is extremely light as is the C60 Elite GMT 1000 and that one is on the CW titanium bracelet which is literally featherlight.
Both the C60 V2 and the C60 Elite GMT 1000 are darker in colour to the SS models.
I hope this helps.

The C60III Elite is demonstrating its popularity here and I suspect the material is part of the appeal; it certainly is for me. When daylight arrives I'll take a photo of its bracelet alongside steel CW bracelets.

I also have a Hamtun MkII which has titanium case and bracelet and is of a different colour: when I received it new I didn't like the bracelet because the links have a different feel in the way they flex and hinge against each other.

There are different alloys of titanium used in watch making and your words "almost like steel" are apt.

Here we go untouched photos of titanium products and 1 steel CW bracelet alongside for comparison. The case side photo suggests that titanium watches come in polished or brushed/matt finish.

Arrived just this morning, it's a stunning finish, lovely colour and I still can't believe how light this feels in titanium

Do you notice your left arm rising up all by itself? It's a cracker of a watch and, for me, if a time comes for "one watch only" this is so capable.

It's such a strange feeling, it feels "cheap" being so light, but it's superbly built (the bezel action is gorgeous) and is just so so comfortable

I'm completely spoilt for choice now, but as you say if it came down to pick one only, I think this could be the "one watch"... although I do love them all right now

Love mine. The polished edges really shine. Just realize any titanium watch will oxidize. Little nicks will remove that oxidation, but over time, the scratch will fade with new oxidation.ImageImage
