Broken Ceramic C1000 Typhoon
Broken Ceramic C1000 Typhoon
Hi, New Member in search of advice. I have a C1000 Ceramic. I love it. But... I dropped it and the case smashed. I contacted CW and they don't have any replacement cases. I assume that leaves me combing ebay but thought you folk may have greater inspiration as to where I might find a new case? Thanks and Best.

Hello and welcome.
I’m sorry about your C1000. As you suspect, eBay may be your best bet.
As an aside, I’d be interested to see a photo of the damage.

Trying not to buy any more watches...

Ouch.
Unfortunately ceramic, in certain circumstances is brittle.
If you are looking for a new case, what will you do when you find it, as most likely it will come as a complete watch?
How about a claim on your Household / Contents insurance and simply buy a replacment (a few more posts and you'll have access to the Forum Sales Corner?

Ouch! Sorry to see that. Good luck in seeking out a replacement/fix for it. Perhaps a local jeweller could help (when we can see them again of course....)?

Hi, Standard Dial. I was rather hoping I could persuade CW to put the movement in the case if I could find one. I suspect I will have to wait a few years until the movement guarantee has expired) and then cases might appear?

Thanks All and very nice to meet you.
Re: Broken Ceramic C1000 Typhoon
Have you got the broken lug? Maybe there is an appropriate glue? If not maybe the whole movement might fit in a replacement case. At least you rescue something that way.

Re: Broken Ceramic C1000 Typhoon
I'd second JAFO's comments about repair - think 'outside the box', is there an antiques/ceramic restorer nearby? Ask at a model/hobby shop about suitable glues = modern adhesives can be very effective. It may be that the solution is less expensive than you think.

Re: Broken Ceramic C1000 Typhoon
That is a problem with cw. Due to the incredibly short life spans of most if not all models each watch comes with a degree of built in obsolescence.
Try and get a new bezel or set of hands never mind a new case in 2 services time!

Re: Broken Ceramic C1000 Typhoon
This was raised maybe 18 months ago and confirmed by Kip? that CW would retain more parts going forward. Doesn't seem to have happened or be a priority.
Current collection incl Alpina, Breitling, Bulova, Citizen, Eterna, Hamilton, Oris, Rado, Raymond Weil, Rolex, Seiko, Tag, Tudor & Victorinox.

There are no reported spares issues on current model watches and the OP's C1000 Typhoon is at least nearly five years old.
Model retired in 2016/04 according to the CWArchive.

Re: Broken Ceramic C1000 Typhoon
They were still clearing out old stock a couple of years ago were they not? (my 18 mths comment was a guesstimate by the way).
Still poor if you need a part. The OP is basically forced to buy a used watch.

Re: Broken Ceramic C1000 Typhoon
I agree, this is a CW weakness and they ought to address it to bolster the long term value of the brand as well as customer satisfaction. Eg Omega, Zenith amongst others still have parts and offer restorations for models going back decades and that does make me more inclined to invest.what-time-is-it wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 2:36 pmThey were still clearing out old stock a couple of years ago were they not?
