C60 MK3 black or white? (real photos anyone?)
C60 MK3 black or white? (real photos anyone?)
Hi all,
I can't decide between black or white dial. My random musings are below shoukd anybody have a viewpoint on either if them.
Any real love photos of either, but particularly the white, would be well received.
Black is classic, and probably a safe option and looks great?. But I do have a black.Black Bay 58 already, and come to think of it a mark 1 black Christopher Ward aviator.
But I can't get my head around the white dial - is it more sporty? formal?
Whatever I buy will be on a strap, and I do like white dials with brown straps which is tempting me..
Finally, I prefer classic sized divers e.g. i went for the 39mm Black Bay 58 as opposed to the 42mm more slab like standard Black Bay.
I'm guessing a 38mm mark 2 might be a bit too small for my just over 7 inch wrist and that 40mm may better suit, which led me to the new mark 3!
Any thought welcomed.

I personally have a black dial Mk3 Trident and I love it. That being said you'll be getting another black dial diver watch soon. I'm personally not a huge fan of white dial dice watches, although the Mk3 Trident in white looks great.

I’d stay clear of the white dial due to legibility personally.

I think a black dial is more sporty, a white dial is more dressy, and at the same time more beautiful.
^^^ Chris makes a good point though, but legibility depends on the colour of the hands. I have a couple of white dials with white hands and they can be a challenge to read as one. I don’t know why the brands do that.

I got rid of of a white hand version of the Mk3. Terrible legibility at a glance.
Black dial version is superb, couldn’t be happier.

Yep, the hand colour is the key. White dials are my favourite but they need contrasting hands. This is my favourite watch that I own and gets worn daily. If my Trident GMT white had black hands I’d still have it0uatiOW wrote: ↑Thu Sep 17, 2020 11:25 pm I think a black dial is more sporty, a white dial is more dressy, and at the same time more beautiful.

The C65 Anthropocene would be my pick of the modern CW white dials if you could get hold of one

Blue and white for comparison.
Cant tell from photo but the white has the wave pattern dial.

I certainly prefer a strong contrast between dial and hands. Just subjectively as well, I have always thought that white hands on a white dial look pretty insipid.TigerChris wrote: ↑Thu Sep 17, 2020 9:01 pm I’d stay clear of the white dial due to legibility personally.

I never found the white dial Trident with silver edged hands an issue when I owned one, however black edging on the hands is probably better if you struggle with legibility (fully black hands even better of course, from that perspective).TigerChris wrote: ↑Thu Sep 17, 2020 9:01 pm I’d stay clear of the white dial due to legibility personally.

^^^^ That is certainly better than the Trident, and looks more legible with those hands, but again just far too much white for my taste.

I have to agree. I’ve had a couple white/light dial watches and I have trouble seeing polished hands, not enough contrast.TigerChris wrote: ↑Thu Sep 17, 2020 9:01 pm I’d stay clear of the white dial due to legibility personally.

Re: C60 MK3 black or white? (real photos anyone?)
The cynic in me says so they can cut the corner and use the same hands on all dial colours - cheapskates.
The point is well made though, the white dial Tridents are not as legible as the black, but personally I prefer the white and they are legible enough though not at a glance, while having a certain distinction about them.
It's a tough choice.
