C60 Lympstone

Post by brash47 »

This one out now

https://www.christopherward.com/militar ... K0-HK.html

All I can say is......nice.....

I have one of the limited edition Seiko Blue Alpinist watches. Its a nice watch but still pretty dainty. This watch is such a better built unit for the same task.

I hope someday there is a stainless version with a bracelet. But for now.....nice.

Brash

To clarify the details the case is stainless with a gunmetal finish.

Yep - the small details that make you think 'what else have they overlooked' and so take your money elsewhere.

I like the case back with the RM cap badge engraving. The rest, not so much.

Not for me.

I wonder if it'll have a ghost date position with the crown at 2? or have they modified the movement...

On second thoughts, this question also applies to the other non-date military watches; Dartmouth, Sandhurst, etc. DO they have the ghost date position with the crown?

No ghost position on the Dartmouth. They must have modified the 200-1 to completely remove the date function.

EDIT: Looked through the other manuals and they don't show a ghost position either.

The date is well camouflaged, that’s all.

I like it.

Does being ex-Army qualify for me to buy one?

Weird isn't it, I really like both this watch and the C65 Sandhurst (which you have), but I think I would just feel weird wearing either with another service insignia on it, as opposed to the C65 Cranwell which I now wear daily, and feel comfortable wearing it (being a RAFC Cranwell graduate from 1988).

If I had no connection with the military in any way, I'd be happy to wear any of them (as a "homage" perhaps), as they're just great watches.

Reality, I don't think anybody really cares, they're not military issue watches anyway (secretly wishes he'd been able to keep his issued Seiko Gen 1 Chrono  ), so just wear what we want because we like the watch

Placed an order today as it's a great outdoors / adventure watch for me. Just have to wait for probably 3-4 weeks. Came to US$ 830 (ordered in GBP) after promo code. Unfortunately just over the $800 duty-free limit but that's ok.

Love everything about it: gun metal PVD case, brushed ceramic outer bezel, inner compass bezel, carbon dial, chronometer, 42mm, logo at 12, no date, under the radar.

The Royal Marines and Lympstone bit doesn't have any meaning for me but is pretty cool nonetheless.

Interested to hear your opinion on it once you've got it and had a chance to give it a go

Agree, it does look a really cool watch and with some unique features

It's actually pretty good value as well, only US$ 155 / GBP 130 more than a regular C60. COSC certification and movement usually already is a US$ 100 up charge by itself.
