DHL return shipments from the USA

I completed a return request and took 3 business days for a response so wasn't too bad. They said my address does not have collection or drop off available so they said to just use a tracked and signed service and do not pay for insurance.

My recent C65 Anthropocene return from 4 months ago was sent with the US Postal Service and was stolen when it was in Parcelforce's possession in the UK. I filed a claim but still waiting after 3 months. I'll probably never see a reimbursement for this $750 watch so will never send with USPS again.

The problem is shipping with UPS and Fedex is expensive (about $160) and CW only reimburses up to $100. There are DHL Service Points (UPS Store) where I could drop off. However, that is still 65 miles one-way for me so I am sending it to the UPS store (using UPS Ground) on my dime.

I asked again if they could send me a UPS or Fedex label for the return to Maidenhead but no luck of course.

So... if you're not in a DHL service area in the USA, you may still be able to use their pre-paid DHL label but have to use the address of the DHL Service Point for them to be able to generate a return label. And you have to drop it off or ship to the Service Point.

Sharing this info here as it may be of help to someone. Curious to see if this one makes it to Maidenhead..!

I wonder if similar logistic constraints apply to the further reaches of UK i.e. parts of Wales or Scotland.

Alternatively, thinking of the location of some forum members, Scandinavia or Canada.

However, if I was in your position Frank, and its a legacy of living in a very expansive Country, I'd bite the bullet, take the safe & secure option and make the 65 mile drive to the local(?) DHL drop off point.

I am sending it to the DHL service point (UPS Store) using our company UPS account with our regular daily pickup so should be safe. And a lot cheaper than driving 130 miles which will take about 3 hours. Shuuld only cost me about $10 with UPS. I actually should have sent it to their main hub in Cincinnati, OH or closest local hub in Michigan. Probably faster that way.

I just want to make sure I'm clear on this: CW told you to NOT buy insurance, but also won't pay for your missing watch? WTAF? To me a directive to not purchase insurance implies that they are self-insuring your return, and are liable for it if it goes missing. I certainly hope you told them to stuff it and insured this one (which they can bloody well cover the cost of).

I haven't asked them yet if they could reimburse for the missing watch. CS did offer to reimburse for $100 shipping cost for the missing watch in their email from yesterday. I'll have to ask them a few more questions..

Yes, they specifically mentioned not to insure, just use a tracked and signed service.

You have more patience than I. You said the watch went missing 4 months ago. I would have been seeking reimbursement 3 and a half months ago. As I said earlier, the directive to not insure implies they are the insurer of record, and they should be covering your loss.

The USPS website showed it takes 53 work days for an international claim investigation so that's 11 weeks or almost 3 months. And it was started at the beginning of the corona pandemic so figured would take even longer.

The return shipment is already delivered to CW so pleased with shipping it to a DHL service point first (1 day - $10) and then into the DHL system in 2 days from the US to Maidenhead. With USPS, it often would sit in customs for a few days as well, sometimes as long as a week.

So definitely will not use USPS/Royal Mail/Parecelforce for any return shipments ever again.

Glad to hear this one made it safely. Certainly $10 well spent considering your prior experience. I guess you can consider it a small rental fee for test driving the watch.
