C60 Elite 1000 / GMT owners, does it bother you that....

Post by NeWard »

That the orange/red marker on the bezel is at the 16 seconds mark and not at the 15th? You can literally zoom in on the top of this page and check out the blue c60 elite 1000 on the header to see the orange dash stopped at the 16th second mark

Yeah, i don't own the watch in question but my life just changed. I need to go back to fundamentals.

Fundamentally then, the word is "perspective"

Also the fact that the 45 minute tick on the insert seems to align with the 46th minute marker, nearly

And another thing; the brand name Christopher Ward: danged big font filling the left side of the forum banner, isn't that just the worst thing since the Titanic went down?

The reasoning behind this is, I believe simple.

On the Admin Team's visit to CW Towers back during last November, I had the opportunity to ask Adrian Buchmann (CW's Head Designer) about it.

The reason why the timing markings stop at '16' on the likes of the C60 Trident Elite 1000, Elite GMT and C60 Apex is that with a '15' on the bezel, if the timing marking stopped at 15 this would be half way under the '15' and will give it the appearance of being lopsided.

By extending the timing marking to finish at 16 it stabilised this potential lopsidedness.

Hope that makes sense.

Have to agree, stopping at 15 looks better. Just one of those many CW design decisions that's like marmite!

I agree with you Guy. This is a form over function thing. It is there so you can see 15 minutes at a glance on a dive watch not 16. Doesn't make a lot of sense. Your example shows it isn't unbalanced at all. Function lost on this choice.

I wonder why they didn't do that to the c60 sapphire where the marking stopped at 15?

Its simple.

The bezel on the C60 Sapphire doesn't have a '15' on it, only '20'.

Hence that can stop the blue line where the 15 would be.

It wouldn't bother me. I can see it both ways. On the watch in the banner header, the orange line extends fully under the numeral. On the watch posted within the thread it stops precisely at the 15, which mean it doesn't extend fully under the numeral. It's just a design choice. No right or wrong I think.

In fact, if you look at the Sapphire, the colour insert on the bezel seems to be contained in a little trench which, if I am not mistaken, ends at approximately 14.75 minutes. :escape:
