Broken Glass Face - C60 Trident Pro 600

Post by Aussie »

Was bending down to grab a bag from the floor this morning, carrying my C60 Trident Pro in my arm with other items, and it slipped out from waist height, landing perfectly face down on the hard tiles.
It hit with that horrible glass shattering sound - I knew it was gonna be bad!!

So disappointed with myself for allowing it to slide out of my arms :(
Worst part is that it appears that the Christopher Ward repairs are on hold during COVID19.

Waiting to hear back from Christopher Ward watches to see if there is an Australian repair option, as it's been my daily wear for the last 3 1/2 years, and it's a fantastic watch. Not a single mark on in that time....
I need it fixed fast!!!!

The glass has been really strong for the odd knock or bang on passing objects / walls etc - with not a mark or scratch, but this was too much for it. I'm sure if it had landed any other way then 100% level face down it would have been ok.

Lesson - Put your watch on your wrist, don't carry it around with other items!!!!!!!! Stupid!!!

If anyone has any info on where or how to get this fixed outside of the UK, I'm all ears.

Ohhh nasty. I feel your pain.

If it makes you feel any better (misery loves company after all) a mate of mine dropped his Datejust on tiles a few years back. Same result.

I think no other option but a trip back to Blighty though and as I understand it, repairs are going through, just more slowly. Perhaps treat yourself to a substitute in the meanwhile?

Likely with the sizing of the replacement sapphire crystal CW is your best bet. Also a heads up, that a full service may be required as shards of the broken crystal may have got into the movement which would also cause bad things to happen....

Welcome to the forum  and commiserations that it is under such circumstances. :(

As above, replacing the crystal is the obvious task but I'd recommend a full service regardless, considering the potential for debris getting inside the movement and consequential damage. Plus, with the shock of the watch hitting the floor it is possible other damage / breakage may have happened internally.

At least this will set you up for the next 5 years of ownership.

I can't tell from the pics if the bezel or anything else is damaged or marred, if so, you might consider a full recasing which would include case (excluding case back), bezel and crystal. Last time I had it done on my 316L a couple of years ago, the cost was very reasonable...a bit over $100US at the time and in return you'll have essentially a new watch. Just a thought.

Oh my, that must be a hard impact to crack the sapphire. I'm sure the folks from CW will make it right as rain.

I see in another thread you've bought a C60 Elite 1000 black/red.

Is this to replace your Trident or is it now away for repair?

G'Day Guy, it's to replace the Trident. My insurance paid out the claim, so may as well upgrade :)

Well, that's one way of doing it.

Great way to get the upgrade. Top notch.

Did it come under the heading of BER (Beyond economic repair)?
