I wouldn't be bothered about the screws if I didn't have OCD.

It's an illness that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

For my entire working life I had to make sure that everything was lined up on my desk properly.

For years when I went to sleep the door had to be open by about 2 inches.

Much to Sue's annoyance I am constantly lining up her lap top that sits in front of mine and making sure her table mat is in line with the edge of the dining table.

Here's a classic picture Sue took one day:
OCD.jpg
Unfortunately it's a form of mental illness but it's part of my life and I have to live with it.

I hope that you can appreciate the extent of the problem now.

^^^^ an excellent pic scooter!

A trait that I recognise.

Maybe something to do with the mindset of folk who end up in a particular profession.

A friend, who was in the same line of work as me, used to compare notes on lining up the labels of jars and tins in cupboards and how it used to annoy our wives.

. . . that they had been made with a degree of precision engineering way beyond the requirements at the price point of the watch.

And that's a very good reason for not having a translucent dial on a watch that is less than GBP1K!, the screws could (and should) line up but obviously way beyond the price point.

But we are 'curious men' after all

Thank you Neil

That makes me feel so much better.

I've even upset my best friend's wife when I line things up in her house.

When we're out having a coffee she deliberately moves my mobile off kilter knowing it will wind me up.

What a bitch!

Sorry I'll shut up now.

PS It still irritates me that my vape stick is slightly out of line in that photograph.

Well, I came very close to ordering one of these, then noted the screw head alignment mentioned earlier. Thought about it and decided my ocd could tolerate that.
Then I looked again at the pictures and noticed what appeared to be a black circle around the letter c on the automatic print.
That turns out to be something on the movement behind the letter c, but, now I have seen it, I can't unsee it and it is not for me.
I get the difficulty of aligning srew heads, but using a different head type would easily overcome that.
As for the dark circle behind the letter c, I can't imagine how that got through the design phase. It's an easy fix. Move the text!
Ocd can be problematic to live with, but, I am thankful engineers usually have it to some extent, otherwise planes would fall out of the sky, ships would sink etc, you get the picture!
I am curious about the sapphire dial, yes it is very tough and scratch resistant etc, but, it is also v brittle, being only 0.6mm thick I can't help but wonder if it might crack in the event the watch gets a good knock or is dropped!

Thats a good point, Scooter. I've just looked at the pics on the website and they are not lined up at all on the pics on there so the chances of them being lined up on a production model are probably slim to zero, unfortunately
I think to be honest, looking at their photos the screws are not lined up but instead they make a pattern that will look right, '/' and '\' representing the top of the screws, the pattern is (but more of an angle on each screw):

/ Christopher \
Ward

\ Automatic /

Sorry I had to add text to space the \ and /

I'm either right about this or bonkers!! :?
Sadly the pictures on the website don''t quite confirm that, I'm with Scooter, they need to be aligned for me as well.

Whilst I don't think I will ever buy one for myself I suspect that the person I am currently looking to buy a watch for would like this, if only it was in a smaller (ladies) size. The guide is a diver style, preferable mechanical with a display back, maybe time for CW to dip their tow into the ladies range again?
I disagree I think if you look at the screws on the AP at 2, 4, 8 and 10

Image

that is how the four screw are on the new Sapphire

But those screw on the AP are bolts secured from the bottom IIRC. Im very dubious the CW will line up on all pieces.

You're absolutely correct.

Those hex head screws are set into a hex recess; it would be impossible to properly torque them into those recesses. The only way to secure them is to use nuts on the back end. That will increase the thickness of the watch.

The bolts on the AP are all following the curve of the casing as they are in about every image you come across.

The CW screws are just random.

I'm in a similar boat, good Sir, although not quite to the extent of you I feel.

Always thought of it as Military Precision; mugs in the cupboard have to be just so, all handles pointing the same was. Tins/Jars with labels facing forward.

Things around the house have to be in the right place and lined up. Etc.

It's just life.

I don’t think you two would get on at my place at all, or my desk at work for that matter. I have a sort of general idea where everything is, but nobody else would have a clue. I do occasionally misplace things for a week or two, then get a surprise when I find them under a pile of stuff.

I have to confess to mugs in the cupboard and tins/jars with labels all facing forward too! I don’t think the screws on the Sapphire will bother me too much though. I’m not 100% on ordering one to look at yet, but I’m not far off.
