I see nothing wrong with getting a little PR mileage from a nice gesture.

Here in the USA most every company that has donated or shifted production capabilities are getting recognition. The way I see it, yes all the front line medical personnel are heroes, but CW is asking for nominations which will result result in some recognition for some of those that deserve it. They all may deserve it, but okay to recognize at least some of them.

Perhaps CW could do more...perhaps not, but certainly something is better than nothing and if they get a bit of PR from it, so be it. In the process at least some of those NHS stars will get some recognition and a free watch.

Chances are though, that very few of the watches will get worn.
Possibly because of the following reasons:
The recipient isn’t “in to” watches.
The recipient doesn’t particularly like the actual watch received.
And finally, the hospital or whatever facility the recipient works in’s, watch wearing policy? For example, my daughter’s hospital has a policy that doesn’t allow you to wear anything below the elbow and therefore, she has to wear a fob watch pinned to her tunic or just uses her phone. This means that she doesn’t even think about wearing a watch when not at work and just relies on her phone.
Steve.

I would applaud them wholeheartedly if they would donate that C8 Al Deere TM-B Limited Edition stuck in Clearance Corner to my local recyclers (Bin Men in Somersetshire speak).

Why only 10? Seems odd.

It would make more sense to run a promotion where all profits for a particular model go towards buying bulk supplies for NHS workers. Our village has been donating toiletries, instant meals and coffee/tea/biscuits to the local hospital on a weekly basis.

It just goes to show that, these days, you can't do anything nice without receiving opprobrium. I am reminded of the adage "If you can't say something nice then say nothing." I kind of wish I hadn't highlighted this in the first place.

I'm sure that the 1.3 million struggling NHS staff will be absolutely over the moon that 10 of them will get a free watch they didn't really want at this time. Sorry CW, this is just a thinly veiled PR stunt.

Possibly well intended, embarrassingly poor execution. Same marketing genius that thought a picture of a teenager repairing my watch would instill confidence in their beligured service dept.
Time is fleeting....happy hour, doubly so.

Excellent suggestion that I would think has much better value for healthcare

I'm not sure this will even be viewed as a good PR stunt.

New hands ay the helm. Desperate times.

An example of how it should be done.

Agreed. This has been very badly thought out. It's crass, plain and simple.

It’s difficult to see beyond the fact that thousands of people are dying horrible deaths, NHS staff are being run ragged and we are barely out of the starting blocks of this terrible situation. I’m firmly in the camp that sees this move by CWL as crass and so utterly irrelevant that it is cringe-making.

I think you are spot on, not one of the company's greatest moments regardless of the original intention.

Personally I was also surprised that they have launched 2 new models in the last few weeks, I cannot imagine they are being inundated with orders at the moment.
