High School Graduation Watch

Post by freehme »

I know there are lists out there, but if you were to buy a watch for a boy graduating from high school who likes watches, what would you get him?

I'm thinking under $500. Looking for ideas.

Thanks

Hamilton Khaki Field.
Seiko 5 Sports (or NOS SKX 007/009 if you can find one)
Orient Mako
C60 Trident 300

Just a few off the top of my head.

@freehme - It would be helpful to know what watches your boy has already, as you don't want to duplicate anything.

Also, any ideas on his preferences for type i.e. Diver, Dress etc. and size (big lad, little lad).

Also, how important is it that the brand is one hes heard of or is recognisable.
In recent years Ive bought a C8 and C60 for this purpose but both lads were familiar with my CWs and Id probably bored them to tears about the quality etc etc 😁

Thanks all... He has a Seiko Orange Monster solar and Junkers JU52 black chronograph 6180-3. I don't think names matter.

I really think he would like the motorsport CW watches. Nothing dressy. More something he could wear every day, but not a G-shock.

Well if you are quick there are some of the outgoing CW Motorsport watches, C7 quartz, auto or quartz chronograph, currently available at half price in the Clearance sale on CW's website.

I think for size, nothing about a 40mm. He's a tall and lean lad.

I'm always back and forth about auto vs quartz.

Sounds like my son. :)

With those criteria your choice is limited with CW, but you won't go far wrong, with either the C3 Grand Tourer or the C3 Morgan Chronograph.

Other brands? I'll leave it to other forum members to make their suggestions.

Maybe i can find someone getting rid of their c7 Rapide from a few years ago. I think they will hit the mark. Otherwise, some of the clearance watches look pretty nice.

Tissot Seastar. The MSRP is higher but there are lots of sales at the clotting places that have them like Macy's, etc. Awesome watch.

I like the Seastar. I looked at it for myself. That being said, I think he likes a bit more color pop.

I think something like the C70 Grand Prix series would be great. If you know anyone who has one they want to let go, let me know.

Off the wall suggestion. If you son likes motorsport watches and doesn't mind quartz take a look at the Yema Rallygraf quartz collection. But I think they are only online so you may prefer something sourced in th US. I'm assuming you are in the US. There will probably be import duty. I've bought from the company and my experience is that they are easy to deal with and reliable.
