Re: Quartz - no need to hide...
I've always had quartz watches and always will.
BUT, if I were to add another in future, it would either be a decent serviceable movement (usually vintage) or HAQ.
Below are the few I currently own.
The most expensive in my collection is quartz ...
Gold Seiko QZ (middle). Have a new strap coming tomorrow for this which closely resembles the original burgundy coloured lizard strap ...
Citizen Crystron with lovely frosted dial that I don't wear often due to the (lack of) lugs ...
One of my first ever watches complete with vibrating alarm. Technology eh ...
For places my other watches dare not venture ...
I also have another 2 vintage Citizen watches tucked away, but don't currently have any photos of them that I can find.
As for past, too many to list although one that stands out is my old Accutron. I really wish I still had it.
It made sense at the time as I was buying/chopping sub £250 watches, but selling it for £120 inc. original box, strap and signed buckle seems criminal now.

Re: Quartz - no need to hide...
The whole snobbery question is an interesting one. That watch snobbery exists in the wide is beyond doubt, and I suppose it could be based on movements just as well as on brands.
I don't think it has really ever been a problem on this forum. We generally have a pretty oecumenical take on brands and movements, and our members on the whole tend to be positive about others' watches and collections.
I have also seen (in other places) examples of snide remarks made about members who post images of "upmarket" watches; I suppose a kind of inverted snobbery, if you will. I prefer to call it jealousy. Thankfully it's not a problem here either. As many members have built their collections and started to include some high class merchandise therein, I believe that the general appreciation and understanding here has developed.
One reason for starting this thread was a feeling that, although such attitudes are not prevalent here, newer members might feel shy about posting their quartz watches, or those from humbler brands, for fear that they might encounter a negative reaction.
Thank you all for some excellent posts and photos so far. Keep them coming!

I wouldn't take it too seriouslyscooter wrote: ↑Sun Feb 09, 2020 4:41 pm I just don't like quartz watches whether it's a Rolex Oysterquartz or a Casio.
My interest in watches is all about the gears, balance wheels, hairsprings etc.
I have no idea why some people relate it to some form of snobbery. That really winds me up.
Nobody has ever called me a car snob because I dislike diesel cars.

Anyway, I love a good quartz …

Re: Quartz - no need to hide...
In many ways I'm one of the 'Quartz Generation' only getting my first mechanical watch/es in 2012 when I searched for a 'proper' watch and found CW.
I still have the Sieko digital quartz chronograph that my parents bought me as an 18th or 21st birthday present and the Seiko SQ100 my late wife bought me as a thank you present in 1990 (for looking after her following a bunion operation).
More recently i.e. since 2012, my collection now runs to nine CWs, a dozen or so Elliot Browns, couple of Animals, Marathon Navigators, Bulova Lunar Pilot, Dodane Type 23 Quartz (same movement as the Breitling Aerospace) and a few others.
I'll try and add some photos tomorrow*, but here's an Elliot Brown Holton Professional to be going on with.

Re: Quartz - no need to hide...
I feel a bit inadequate, only one quartz watch at the moment as below. I probably do prefer a mechanical movement, however happy to wear quartz and have had a few including some lovely watches - GS, Farer, Trident 300, C3 FLE

Re: Quartz - no need to hide...
Okay here we go.
And I too have this silly snobbery about mechanical watches being so much "better" which is silly in many ways because quartz watches usually offer greater functionality at lower prices.
Seiko will always feature for me and I currently enjoy a Yachting Timer and several dozen (yes really!) 7T34 movement watches all of which have different cases, dials or colourways but there's just one here.
Omega are represented by a Seamaster and the eccentric Speedmaster X33 which has a blistering loud alarm.
My beloved Porsche Design Titanium.
Christopher Ward represented by a time warp C6.
Oh, I quite forgot the last one, a Casio which I treated myself to at the age of 21 and in which I have changed the battery maybe half a dozen times but probably less.

My first Swiss made watch and my favourite quartz watch, I've ever owned.
I wear it everday and its my only battery powered watch, that is currently working.

Re: Quartz - no need to hide...
Quartz watches have their place in each and every collection, IMHO.
I have three.
First up is my CW C60 300 in black. It is 38mm size and has the half brushed, half polished bracelet. I save this for occasional smarter use, when I need to grab something quickly, when I need to KNOW that is is bang on time and when I need a slightly thinner profile to slip under a cuff.
Second is my solar GShock. I save this for the gym or when I’m out cycling. I appreciate its indestructible construction, the fact that it’s radio connection never needs its time adjusting and I always use it as my timekeeping reference point for all my other watches.
Last is my Seiko SNA411. Ok, it’s over complicated, I have never used the alarm and the crystal will need a polish every too often. However, I take this whenever I go camping or hiking. The slide rule feature and compass markings in the bezel can be handy for navigation, as can the stopwatch.
I think the features you can get from a quartz (amazing accuracy, robustness and a plethora of complications) certainly mean they have a place in my collection. True, I now prefer mechanical for my day-to-day wear, but I’ll always have a couple of quartz close to hand,

Re: Quartz - no need to hide...
I would happily take every single one of those FergMiniMpi wrote:Currently I have 6 quartz out of a collection of 21 watches.
I think your trio Steve shows why I love my one's too, they are nearly all chronograph models.
I find it best for me personally to have a quartz in a chronograph as you don't have the large second hand which is very obviously a quartz in it's movement.
Not hiding the fact that they are quartz, just that they are easier to live with personally.
