Best ever comment on a watch by a customer?

Post by strapline » Tue Jan 21, 2020 9:04 pm

Well...I've been looking at watch reviews on YouTube, as some of us are disposed to doing from, err, time to time. I found myself looking at the Sinn 556i, this time reviewed by JustBlueFish Watch Reviews. It's a watch I've always admired from afar, I love the simple, legible dial; the steel H link bracelet; the display caseback with gold rotor; and it's downright tool-ish design language. It's a pretty perfect utilitarian timepiece.

So, I couldn't help smiling when I came across this comment in the comment thread:

If anyone wants one great watch and doesn’t want to go down the rabbit hole that is watch collecting, get this, unsubscribe to all watch content across the web, and never look back. It’s that good and it’ll save you thousands of dollars in the long run.

I think this is just brilliant and worth sharing. You may not think the comment matches the watch, and would like to substitute it with another watch. But there's liquid gold wisdom in there for those of us that have disappeared down that rabbit hole or, for the moment, are frantically holding on to the grassy sides of said hole, legs kicking awaiting pending doom.
I'm a tool watch kinda guy; bezels and pushers for me. I used to dive, I used to climb mountains. I spend too much time looking at watches.

You have to spend any money you’ve got to indulge yourself on something, so it might as well be watches :ka: :)

As long as you are wearing your lumed diver, you’ll be fine :)

He would have needed a watch to know he was late.

Interesting, and to a degree sound, advice but

1. I think I'll ignore it and

2. Its rather a nice Warren down here.

I'm actually thinking of doing that myself as I keep spending and spending; looking and looking. I may actually just pay a little more for the next one and be done with it... for a bit.

The 556 wouldn't be a terrible choice for a 1 watch collection. I've always admired the 556, although my personal preference is for the Arabic dial. The 5561 however, would probably be a better all-rounder.
