Post by Laird » Thu Dec 05, 2019 2:37 pm

Theres an August 2018 Model of this RAF C7 currently on EBaY.

Ambitiously priced at £549 ...

Its Caseback suggests serial # is 000 ... I cant find a reference to this Limited Edition in the Archive ....

That's an interesting piece probably, rather like many of the Military Commission watches, made in limited numbers.

I'll hazard a guess the '000' bit of the #32 / 000 serial number is due to it being limited but not to the point of the limited being finite; if that makes sense.

Not one I've seen before but, due to the special nature of the ROYAL Squadron, quite a cache to it.

As to it not being in the CWArchives with the best will in the world we, the Admin Team, have only limited knowledge of the Military Commissions produced by CW; we have some listed in the CWArchives but not all by any stretch of the imagination.

Now that this one has surfaced we may take the opportunity to add it to the Archives.

I’m Ex 32 (TR) Sqn, what would you like to know? The case back shows all of the aircraft that were flying when the watch was commissioned.

Thanks Guy - that was by no means a criticism of the Archive, merely a statement that this one isnt listed.

I wondered if '000' was a prototype indication ? A limited edition would more likely be a range starting with '001' ... dunno !

Hi Metman - mainly curious about how 'Limited' the Production run was - and when originally commissioed. This watch has a CoA for August 2018 - but possibly because it was an Archives Sale then by CWL ?

Oh, and any idea how much they sold for originally ?

Cheers for your help !

This model is not in the CWArchive. As Guy has mentioned, Information on Military and bespoke models is sketchy at best. At some point this info will be added, but until we can get more definitive information it doesn't make sense.
In the meantime, I put together what I can find.

I have this model listed as a 32 piece edition. My guess is that the 000 means that this is a production prototype, meaning that it is a sample to insure that everything was okay prior to the actual production run.

Resale information is scarce, but I think it fair to compare to other C7 RAF models as a guide. See here for some resale pricing. Click on the model for more detailed info.

I set up the commission but ‘retired’ before it was completed, one of the other pilots took it on. The original plan was to have a run of 32 watches but unsure of how many were settled upon in the end. The project was back in 2012, so I’m guessing that is the prototype that would have been shown around on the Sqn.

From memory it was £375 on leather and £425 on a bracelet.
