Re: I Know, I Know...(Logo Opinion)
I have 1 mk II font/brand piece, and three with the current. I personally prefer the new simple font, regardless of it's position but if I had to choose, then I'd drop the Christopher Ward text completely and just go with the twin flags motif, be that embossed, embolden or printed, which is currently an option with some of the pieces.
I just think it's cool to have an obsolete technology on my wrist that actually works. - rfortson
Re: I Know, I Know...(Logo Opinion)
Loga at 9 or logo at 12 are both just fine, what I couldn’t stand was the old logo CHR. Ward.. i mean what even is that
Anyway I have 2 now and am very impressed. #keepthelogo

Re: I Know, I Know...(Logo Opinion)
I think you have highlighted the issue for many. It is the idea that the logo position was changed to be more left field and modern, to capture a younger market, but brand identity and image will have changed as a result. To maintain this modernity, further changes would need to take place sometime in the future, further diluting brand identity. At some point, the company will need to hold firm on its identity to be a more widely recognisable name, to be able to add perceived value to the brand. Prices cannot keep rising without that added value perception and they will hit a wall, after all, materials and labour used are only subject to inflationary rises.Craig64 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2019 12:15 pm
I actually love their current branding, it looks modern and unique to them. For me that 9 o’clock position of the “Christopher Ward” is fine and I like the fact that they are not afraid to move away from what is traditionally considered to be the so called “norm”.
Have I opened the proverbial can of worms?
For me, the price has risen beyond the point of where I see the value and in the main, it's the brand identity change caused by the logo position that has done this.
All very subjective and of course just my opinion, but I tend to look elsewhere now for my future collection, unless some old logo bargains turn up, which they still do from time to time.

At 55 I'm happy being the "younger market" they're aiming at at!

Re: I Know, I Know...(Logo Opinion)
It is quite fascinating to realise just how much opinion differs on this subject, varying from those such as myself, who are big fans of the current logo/branding, to those who really cannot live with it and consequently move away from making purchases that otherwise may have been made.
There is no right or wrong answer in my opinion. It is purely a matter of personal opinion.
For my part, considering the dive watch market, retail price point below £1000:
Having purchased 4 of the C60 Trident watches (bearing the current branding, 3 Mk2s and a Mk3), I was hungry for another automatic dive watch to add to my small collection. I was keen to see if any alternatives to Christopher Ward, offered watches with equivalent combined features, within the sub £1K price bracket, so as to consider something a bit different.
I did a lot of searching. I could not find any dive watch below £1,000 that came even close to matching the features of the C60 Trident. Features including a Ceramic Bezel with lume, top quality bracelet with an easily adjustable dive extension, and quick release pins.
My search included close looks at Hamilton, Longines, Tag, Tissot, Certina, and Steinhart, and others.
Yes, the decision was easy for me, I pulled the trigger and bought another C60 Trident in the Black Friday sale, promptly received soon after ordering.
Logo aside, for me these people are in a league of their own in terms of their overall offerings.

I doubt that the VFM of CW watches has ever been in question and I agree with the comments re. the other offerings below/around £1000.Craig64 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2019 9:05 pm

It's just that for those that don't like the present name logo the watches aren't vfm if there's something fundamental about or on the dial that isn't to their taste.
I was fortunate to be able to grab 1 of the NN blue Trident GMTs but even at £626.50 I couldn't live with the name being at 9o'clock so it's going back tomorrow/Tuesday because it'd be a waste of £626.50 if I kept it.
I'll probably not buy anything and will hold onto the money so it is a lost sale for CW.

Totally agree. I think the frustrating thing for those of us who can't live with the logo at 9 is that we DO recognize the value for money and actively WANT to participate but can't.Mikkei4 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2019 9:30 pmI doubt that the VFM of CW watches has ever been in question and I agree with the comments re. the other offerings below/around £1000.Craig64 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2019 9:05 pm

As someone said earlier, I honestly don't see many (any?) of the fans of the logo at 9 not buying if it was at 12 whereas the converse is clearly not true. That has to result in lost sales. Anyway, over and out. I'm totally done with the brand for any watch with the logo at 9. Actually, I've moved on already so there's $10k+ of sales CW didn't even have the opportunity to tempt me with over the past 18 months alone.
Shrug. I'll never understand it.

I'll chime in. I think "Christopher Ward" is better than the old "CHR Ward". Putting in at 9 vs 12 is neither Amazing nor awful for me. It is what it is. It doesn't look bad and it does serve to balance the date window. However, in a perfect world they would transition to the twin flags logo embossed under the 12' o'clock and let the brand stand on that....
I agree that for the price, there isn't a better diver at it's price point, and I'm including Oris in that discussion. Once you get a C60 Mk 3, you really have to jump up to a Chronometer certified diver to get something objectively better.
So, in my view, perfection would be the twin flags embossed at 12, but failing that, the current logo at 9 is fine.

Re: I Know, I Know...(Logo Opinion)
I have a c65 with the the new logo but as much as love the watch something just doesn’t sit right.
Bought a red/black mk3 trident and had to return and luckily picked up a mk2 2nd hand. Whether the Chr.Ward was just what used to? but can’t see me adding any others to the collection for now. Unless the flag logo is made more obvious to balance out the dial.

Re: I Know, I Know...(Logo Opinion)
I’m new to watches, I absolutely love the logo. I procrastinated for months on making a purchase and came close to buying a few on eBay second hand. I found myself actively avoiding old logo watches. Apart from the value of CWL it was the modern logo that drew me in. I understand that CWL listen to their customers perhaps more than other brands might but on this I think sales might be the determining factor. They’re selling like hot cakes, if it ain’t broke..
Re: I Know, I Know...(Logo Opinion)
I’ll Just in, with my opinion... I own the Trident V2 in both white and blue with the new logo and to be honest I was interested in the brand for a while but the old Chr Ward logo put me off, I liked the new logo.
However I no longer wear either of my V2s they collect dust in my watch box... I just felt them both too plain ?
I thought it was just that the white was too plain, hence I then ordered to blue, firstly they, feel nicer on my wrist than my 40 & 45mm Omega Planet oceans drivers and sit a little lower too...
The V3 I think is a step forward with the twin flags at 12 .. just fills that space, I think maybe if it was made of metal it would be even better .. overall I feel the slightly smaller 42mm polished dial and 12 o’clock twin flag really improves the look of the V3 over the V2.
Now if only CW held their value I could have sold both my V2s and picked up a black V3 lol

The trick is to buy right. Very few watch brands hold value, so buying new is a mug's game.

Re: I Know, I Know...(Logo Opinion)
I think apparently like many that the logo was better at 12 o'clock, impossible for me the logo at 9 o'clock I find the dial unbalanced, but for chronos depending on the location of the sub-meters it can be perfect. For me the most unfortunate thing is the fact of having removed the origin of the watch, for an English brand it is better to have a marking UK, GB, London, ....
Re: I Know, I Know...(Logo Opinion)
I think the posts above capture all of my views of the logo. I was staunchly against the new logo, its positioning and the first iteration of the redone website (the first iteration was perhaps the worst offence of the three).
Since then, I have not bought a CW with the new logo. However, I have gotten used to it.
I did feel the brand deserted me with the new logo, so I for the last three years, I have looked long and hard at other brands, and when it came time to buying new watches over the last year, I have passed-over CW, in favour of Alexander Shorokhoff (SixtyThree dress), Dietrich (TC-1 dressy sport), Edox (moonphase) and Timex (Marlin and S1 Galli).
Another poster had mentioned that CW is offering an incredible bang-for-the-buck combination, and I have to agree, especially when compared to Steinhart, Tissot and Hamilton. Oris may have a similar offering. As such, CW is still in my consideration set, but it is no longer my first choice, or a given. Having said that, I will likely pull the trigger on a Trident MkIII eventually (I have the MkI and MkII so the MkIII seems to be in my future), but I will be looking long and hard at other brands. Nodus, for example, is a new and exiting brand that grabs my attention. Not as high a value as CW's Trident, by any means, but I would give it equal consideration now as a result of the logo issue

Re: I Know, I Know...(Logo Opinion)
I am not really a watch wearer but have just bought myself a C3 Morgan Chronograph, which has surpassed all my expectations. It is my only watch. Obviously it is quartz.
The biggest source of angst for me in choosing this watch, and in settling on this particular CW, was in terms of branding and the position of the logo and the C3 Morgan reflects my clear preference: 12 o'clock position with the words "Christopher Ward" appearing only on the back. I love the chronograph function; it is handy, as it happens; but I could have done without that, and almost certainly would not have bought with the logo in a different position.
That said, there is no way a company like CW should be targeting a customer like me who, as I said above, is not a watch wearer and owns only one quartz watch. And, perhaps more importantly perhaps for this discussion, surely CW have done market research on this issue and have established that the 9 o clock logo would be popular? It was a huge change and it has been successful. Perhaps the answer is to have some watches without the name, some at 12 and some at 9 o clock. I wonder, with the military collection (I nearly bought the Sandhurst but in the end decided quartz was best for me) whether this is one way things might develop?
