How does the C8 Power Reserve wear?
Hi all,
The C8 Power Reserve is seriously calling my name. One thing that's putting me off is the 44mm case diameter. Could someone who's worn the watch give me some feedback on how it wears? From the photos it looks like the lugs curve down a good bit, which would help.
Thanks in advance!

It does wear large but it is a great looking watch - here it is on my 8.2" wrist but if you have a small wrist it'll probably be too big

Original CW Tiber strap, 19.5cm wrist.
I use a Hirsch Liberty with more stitching for contrast nowadays which I think looks better. The wrist angle is not so good on this shot though.
Still my favourite CW of all time.

Its a beautiful watch but it wore really large on my wrist - and I regularly wear a 44.5mm Grand Seiko diver with no issue. Maybe someone has the measurement, but I think it was the long lug to lug measurement that made it wear big. (18.5cm wrist). Reluctantly, I returned it.

The DLC case is much more attractive without appearing gaudy like the stainless. The watch case is remarkably less weighty than my Omega Speedmaster Racing.

SS is "gaudy" now? If so, I'll take gaudy over DLC any day - one dink and it's toast.

Don't dismiss the DLC coating. Had mine since they first came out and not a nick on it. Check out wikipedia to see just how hard a DLC coating is. It's all just personal preference. It's a large watch and the black case is just a little less conspicuous with warmer tones. Possibly better in winter months. The bright stainless, better with brighter summer colors. A buddy of mine, had a hard time believing they were the same watch until shown side by side pics. I have actually considered adding the stainless model for just those reasons. UNBELIEVABLY smooth when winding/setting, and a stellar time keeper as well.
Time and money? I’ve spent most of mine on booze and women. The rest I just wasted…

Been there (in fact I still own two DLC watches - which I do not wear) - never again, so now I don't do plating/coatings of any description. Yeah I know it's different this time, it always is, until it ain't! Having said that, it's not that I don't like the effect and SS is not hard enough either, it's just that to me scratches don't look so bad and hopefully can be polished out at service time. At some point maybe I'll have to try a Damasko....watchaholic wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2019 9:50 am

But back to topic: See you movement and timekeeping and raise you design and execution. The C8PR is a cracker, eats IWC's lunch.

They sent me the DLC version in error after I had ordered the steel so have handled one - I sent it back as I didn't like it...

I owned the steel one (which I much prefer over DLC in the whole C8 series).
My wrist is 7.25” and I usually struggle with larger / heavier watches but could wear mine without too many issues.
Although the case is on the larger size it’s relatively light weight and I found it more everyday wearable than a 43mm Trident.

I owned one a while back and was very surprised to find it got marked by wearing a nato strap (the case-back). I think because it is a sort of matt finish and not completely smooth it can get flat spots that notice.

Re: How does the C8 Power Reserve wear?
Was that a black or SS version?
Not sure, but maybe even the SS Damaskos have a coating and in my experience any coating wears through (even if one avoids scratching or dinging) no matter how hard and hey presto it triggers my OCD.

it was the SS version. The nato was on it for approx 3 months.

Re: How does the C8 Power Reserve wear?
The Damasko cases are hardened all the way through, not just on the surface (Sinn’s Tegimented and Seiko’s Diashield are both forms of surface hardening). This makes the Damaskos incredibly tough watches; it’s very rare to see one showing even the slightest signs of wear. It can happen, but it takes a lot. The hardening on Damasko watches does not disappoint...H0rati0 wrote:Not sure, but maybe even the SS Damaskos have a coating and in my experience any coating wears through (even if one avoids scratching or dinging) no matter how hard and hey presto it triggers my OCD.
