C65 Trident Diver SH21 LE

Post by DavecUK » Thu Oct 24, 2019 10:28 am

Ah well....the love didn't last too long. Picked up the watch on September 3rd 2019, treated it like a newborn baby. It all worked perfectly for a while but was always incredibly stiff to wind to the point I felt concerned about breaking the shaft of the winder. I called CW a while back about it but they reassured me that he watch had been thoroughly checked and it was all good.

I leave it in the watch winder when not wearing and it keeps wound no problem. I go away for a week and when I come back less than 2 days left on the power reserve, it's no longer winding and when I give the watch a little flip the weight inside does not sound to be moving freely or correctly. A little more grindy and won't spin like before.

The watch had also lost a good deal of time as when it gets to around 2 days power left, it looses heavily, which I thought unusual to have that much little isochronicity on a movement with that much power left.

Tried to contact CW this morning but too busy to answer so had to leave a message...looks like nothing really has changed!

Just don't understand it...I'm sure they will fix it, but it's not great.

Sorry to hear that, good luck with getting it sorted!

Do you have a local watchmaker that can look at it, or will you return it to CW for service or refund? A local watchmaker may void the warranty but likely won’t be expensive for a small fox and might save you a couple of months and a bit of hassle ?

It's less than 2 months old and an SH21, they're sending a repairs pack and I know they have to send them to Switzerland which is a 10 week turnaround, so I am not anticipating seeing the watch again until the new year. Probably the end of January 2020, but more realistically end February 2020 as we have the Christmas holidays in between. It's a lovely watch, lets hope I get to wear it more than a few months in every year.

You only qualify for a refund if it's in unworn condition.

That's not true if it isn't fit for purpose, which this clearly isn't. Don't rely on the 60:60, rely on your consumer rights.

Don't tell the anti-hunting lobby! :D

I really like the look of this watch and was very tempted by the appearance of 1 in the NN page just yesterday but I held off despite the 30% reduction and went on to read the comments re. CW on Trustpilot from the link on 1 of the posts on another topic.

These in general highlight not just the problems that people are still having with CW CS but also the problem with this particular watch, i.e. the same issues that DavecUK is experiencing.

To release a “5day reserve” watch that needs manual intervention on days 4 and 5 so it doesn’t lose significant time is perverse. That makes it a 3 day reserve watch surely ? This follows the question of whether their warranty is now 36-48 months rather than the 60months advertised.

I don’t like knocking CW as I’ve bought several of their watches, new and pre-owned, and still have 3 that are going strong and look great. However these are older watches that seem to have escaped the problems occurring on some of the newer models. Thankfully the 9o’clock logo has stopped me from buying any of their newer watches and the recent CS and QC problems will prevent me from buying any in the near future which is a shame as I like the overall look of the Trident Mk3 GMT.

I hope DavecUK gets his watch fixed as soon as possible.

I did return my watches for full refund after worn them for quite few weeks without any problems, as long as the watch head is in excellent condition. Instead of sending your watch back to CW for repair, I think you should demand for a replacement.

This is more likely to be an issue of "not sufficient quality"
