At present I don't believe that the 'new' 60/60 (48) would apply as the terms in the handbook contradict what's stated throughout the website (apart from the handbook pdf's). If would be buyers are encouraged to 'Do Your Research' then everything on the CW website proudly talks about the benefits and peace of mind of 60/60 and therefore it would be fair and reasonable to assume the content on the sales and info pages is reliable and accurate enough to make an informed decision, with no mention of the insistence on paying for a service in the initial 4 years of ownership in order to qualify for the 5th year guarantee.

I appreciate this is all for the future, as any warranty challenge in theory wouldn't be an issue until 1/5/23 - but consistent info is necessary, especially if they are (probably) rolling out this requirement across future releases.

Genuine question: do other manufacturers in the sub-1000GBP offer 5 years warranty without requiring service? Or is this just Omega & co?

One more genuine question: Why would a CW watch require more frequent servicing than other brands? Is it the quality of the parts or oils? This would be understandable as the watches are a fraction of the cost of some other brands with similar warranties? Or is there another reason?
Mac, I'll take a bash at your questions:

I can't think of another manufacturer in CW's price class that offers a 5 year guarantee at all. But then comes the marketing: CW aspires to punch well above its price class, hence the direct sales model and 5 year warranty.

I don't think that a CW does require more frequent servicing. If you look across manufacturers, 3-5 years is generally the service recommendation. But Rolex now quote 10 year intervals, Omega 5-8 and the industry seems to be moving to longer intervals. Nor do I think that Rolex or Omega use "secret formula" oils or seals. Watch manufacturers get better, processes and materials improve so the leaders set the pace and the pack follow along.

But you hit the nail on the head I believe, there is another reason and that is what worries me and I think many others here: Warranty and service intervals are implicitly linked to product quality/manufacturer confidence in product quality. Taken together with the problems in CS (post sales) troubling concerns start to bubble up.

In the great scheme of things, whether CW offer a 4 year or 5 year warranty is of little concern to me as a potential purchaser, but I am cognisant of these recent knocks to owner confidence.

It does beg the question, say you had a CW, purchased new from CW and now almost 4 years old. Worn very, very infrequently, say 4 times a year at most.

Would CW still recommend that the watch was serviced and if they did what reasons would they provide?

I appreciate that under the, for new watches bought under the revised “5 years subject to service warranty” I would know I had to have it serviced to maintain the “5 Year warranty”.

The current CW service warranty is 12 months.

Neil
Perhaps I'm in part to blame for this situation  . I have a C9 5 day that is 60 months old this month, worn 3 or 4 times a year, never serviced. Three months ago, on one of its periodic rotations, it started to show a temperamental stopping issue - so a warranty request was made, accepted without quibble and I am awaiting its return. No query was ever made about the lack of a service so, for me, I have seen the very positive side of the 60/60 to almost its full extent.

As to whether the current offering is still a 60/60 (with or without conditions) it would seem some people are trying "to make a sh*te out of a fart".

The service recommendations have been there for years. Whether 3 to 4 years is a bit vague or not would only be subject to challenge if CW rejected a fair warranty repair, on a watch bought prior to the new T'&C's, and where the age was less than 3 years, 51 weeks and 7 days - for which no-one seems to have yet suffered. To me, introducing the firmer new conditions, if applied to new purchases, is an evolution of what is still a relatively generous warranty process

Don't see why 3-4 years is so vague? Sometime after 3 and before 4 years, gives me 12 months to get the watch in for service. Rather nice window of opportunity. Hopefully it will be returned in time to be enjoyed before the next service is due. I am genuinely beginning to dread the thought. :problem:

Indeed. At current levels of debacle-ness, send your watch in year 3, get it back year 4.

What worries me is whether you get it back at all

I may have lost the wood for the trees here but can somebody clarify exactly what the situation is? Do i need to service my watches at 3-4 years to ensure my warranty is valid for the full 5 years? thanks

As far as we know so far, this only applies to the new Trident Mk3 - and that is debatable since only the manual states it while the website conditions do not. Previous generations do NOT require a service to qualify for the full five year warranty.
