Fake/Homage CW watches

Post by Proco2020 »

This may have already been posted but was looking for something else on eBay (a watch obviously) and stumbled across this.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mens-Wristwatc ... 4275642690

I'm a little surprised someone is copying CW60's

Does anybody care?

Back in the 80s I had a colleague who acquired a fake Rolex on a trip to the far east. He bought himself the genuine article a few weeks later having decided he enjoyed the design. Point being: I don't think that "homages" affect the manufacturers for the originals at all. The buyers who acquire fakes cannot or will not ever pay for the real thing.

Does that not contradict what you said in the first part of your post? :?

Not at all (though my wording was a little ambiguous) he bought the fake to merely try out - not surprisingly it did not satisfy. Rolex got their sale - the fake was irrelevant.

One could make the point that fakes are frauds, but hopefully few really think they are buying the genuine article for $50.
