Swapping Malvern C3 internals

Post by u01ncw »

Hi,

I have a mk1 C3 Malvern and have badly gouged the case falling off my bike. I have another CW watch with exactly the same case, but my damaged watch holds sentimental value.....how feasible would it be for me to swap the case over? I've removed the watch back before, but never delved further!

Would really appreciate any tips from anyone with this experience.

Thanks

I would be worth asking if CW can do a recase - but not sure if they would have the right case in stock.

Always worth asking CW, sometimes their re-case costs can be surprisingly low.
There's always time for one more.

That's your answer. Image

Clean and simple with, as mentioned, surprisingly low cost. You will keep the movement, dial & hands and case back which presumably are the items with sentimental attachment.

Do let us know what you decide to do and how you get on.

I have taken the movement out of a C60 38mm Trident to blow dust off the dial and inside glass. It went fine.

The process is:

1). Unscrew back.

2). Remove Crown/stem (small dimple to depress to release, look online)

3). Unscrew movement screws and tabs holding movement in case.

4). remove any ring/spacer that may also be holding movement in place (may not be needed depends on case).

5). Turn case over on watch cushion (or other surface that will not damage anything) to allow movement to come out.

6). Replace movement into new case (careful to ensure it goes in straight).

7). Insert crown/stem.

8). Ensure movement is accurately aligned (ie 12 is at 12 o'clock).

9).Replace any movement ring + movement screws and tabs.

10). Replace case back.

As Guy says if you do not feel confident and do not have good quality screw drivers send back to CW.
