Re: Forum Survey Results
lol, the comments are unfortunately perpetuating the stats.
Lighten up, guys. The moral of the story is we need to welcome newbs. Reach out.

Ooh, rather, but not a fan of the nose bleeds!
Has this thread gone slightly left field?
On the topic, are there any changes envisioned based on the results of the survey?

Re: Forum Survey Results
As a general rule we do welcome newbs. I try to make a point of it where I notice and am not just skimming the unreads, as do other members, and the mods always do. Kip always provides to useful reading and Guy always does a bit of a Herman Munster and welcomes newbs to the asylum.
I am astonished that anyone feels left out because they aren’t welcomed by their first name. A lot of folks are somewhat anonymous behind their forum name (me included, because my real first name is as odd as my forum name), but once they start getting involved and sharing what their first name is, they do start getting used.
My name is 0uatiOW, but before you ask, no I don’t.

Re: Forum Survey Results
^^^A very perceptive post. Generally we would use first names if we know them. Individuals can choose to share or not. One chap who has been here longer than me only ever uses his forum name. We’ve met socially and I know his name but would never use it on the forum.

Re: Forum Survey Results
Yes, you have to post with a smile on your face, even when your watch has been returned with the problem not fixed!
If as the survey say's, folk aren't posting because of the perceived negativity, however that is defined and if it is to be discouraged, albeit a human trait, then it seems you willl simply be swapping one group of posters with another. And who will Police this?
For me, this is all getting too deep and being over-thought. It's an internet forum, it's a broad Church, encompassing different views and opinions. So why not consider creating different forum headings and sub-forums that will appeal to those with differing views i.e. a good news thread about CW and a what hacks me off with CW thread, or something like that, which can easily be avoided by those that only want to read what appeals to them. You have zero chance of satisfying everyone and compromising isn't really a way forward.

^^^Of course, we are all looking at how some things could be done better and Kip has hinted at one or two.
You can't, as noted, please everyone all the time.

Re: Forum Survey Results
As a recent newcomer to the forum I thought I might make an observation about the perceived negativity findings in the survey . It took me some time looking through posts that at times contained what at first might be perceived as negative comments (the logo at 9 o`clock seems the perfect example) to realise that CW enthusiasts are a passionate bunch when it comes to the subject of watches & to the newcomer I can understand why this could be a little off putting ( didn`t put me off I like a good mix of views) A thicker skin on the part of newbies might be in order but I can`t help but observe that a thicker skin on the part of longer standing members to peoples opinions in a survey might also be in order but that could just be the way I perceive it
