The CW Website has disappeared...

Post by gaf1958 »

Well, for me (in Australia) it has.

Warning... curmudgeonly comments ahead.

Not impressed. CW images directly linked on the forum are not showing. Links that I’d click on directing me to a CW page are not working.

So I shuffled off to the CW website to see what was going on and regardless of browser I’m getting an error message indicating that too many redirects have taken place, so the browser has terminated that session request giving me ... nothing.

The culprit? CW appear to have implemented an Australian flavour of their website, and as we know, they shouldn’t be let loose with the crayons when it comes to web implementation. They have, in their wisdom, detected that I live in Oz and automatically redirected me from the site I wanted (the co.uk site) to the au/.../com site - unasked!!!
I repeat unbloodyasked...

Problem is the AU implementation is up and down like a yoyo, the redirect seems to send me around the known cosmos until the browser decides to object - even when I type in the AU URL.

Ok fine. You’ve implemented an AU site. What you *should* do when I go to the UK site and you detect I’m in Oz, is to ask me if I want to go to the AU site and then if I say “yes please” - and ONLY then - do you redirect me to the AU site. As it stands, due to the automatic redirect, I’m unable to access any bloody CW website, either the UK one I wanted (from the link in the forum) or the AU one.

If I want to access the UK site, then bloodywell let me do it, don’t *force* me into the nonexistent AU site. If and when it does exist and works, still don’t force me into it. If I want to check the prices in £ to see if it’s better for me than AU$ then LET ME DO IT. don’t force me BACK to the Oz version of the website. That’s just really poor...

BTW, I CAN access the UK site if I fire up the VPN and set a location in the UK, but I don’t and shouldn’t need that for normal usage.

Also BTW mods, this is not in the Curmudgeon’s Corner as I’m quite happy to get replies to the post to tell me if I’m being unreasonable ... or not.

So... in the meantime I can’t see any of the new models in any of the discussion here.... unless I switch on the UK VPN settings.

Time for a nice cup of soothing camomile tea Gary!
Completely understand the frustration mind. CW don't quite have an unblemished record in the old website malarkey!

Agree Gary, that’s very poor. The customer should be able to choose. I had the same problem with the website of a shirt retailer, wanting to buy some from the UK site, but, because I happened to be in the US, insisted on taking me to the US site, unasked, and wanting to charge me shipping to the UK. I gave up.

Not everyone has VPN, and as you say, you shouldn’t need one.

That doesn't sound good Gary.

Bad enough being forced to a non-existent site but not being able to new models is double bad.

CW IT/Customer Services shooting themselves in the foot again. Have you sent a complaint direct to CW?

CW is aware of the issue. They did a security upgrade of some sort that has caused this issue.

Although I have no photo issues, If I want the UK site I can't get there. I keep getting redirected back to the USA site. It doesn't matter whether mobile or desktop, link or direct address bar.

I suspect it will be corrected soon.

Relax, have a cup of tea and think of the money you are saving at the moment.

I probably should, but do I send them an edited version of that rant or do I just point CS to the thread? Image

Thanks Kip, good to know. I suspect you see the photos as the US .com site is fully active and has been for a good while. I imagine they will sort it out soon enough and if it takes longer than desired I can always use a VPN to connect. Much happier now that I know they know... :)

Just to chime in, I too cannot reach the UK site without a going via VPN. This is probably related to PHP upgrades as support for PHP5.6 is terminating as I write and of course ISPs want everybody to move implementations to PHP7.x I have had some problems with sites that I manage with so called PHP7 compatible components not working. CW will need a little time to slog their way through like the rest of us.

Do I hate bloody software!

The issue has been resolved. You may have to clear your cache files from the past 48 hours and then reboot, but that's all it took for me.

You still will not be able to type into the domain co.uk or .HK if you are from a country that has a designated website but you can swap between currency sites.
