My First CW Watch

Post by pancakedan » Sat Dec 22, 2018 6:04 pm

HI all,

I've been on the hunt for a 1950s/60s inspired racing chronograph for a while now and nothing has really appealed to me until I saw an advert in Classic & Sports Car for the new C3 Grand Tourer. CW has never really been on my radar (although I've known about the brand and what they do) but seeing this watch really got me interested in CW as it's exactly what I've been looking for and even more so when I saw the price.

So during the Black Friday deals, I picked up the silver white dial which was duly hidden away by my wife as it was going to be my wedding anniversary gift. Now I've got my hands on it, first impressions are that it looks a lot nicer in the flesh, the build quality seems solid and the silver white dial gives it a real vintage feel. The size (39mm) is just about prefect, any bigger and I'd probably have passed on it. I'm equally impressed with the leather strap which doesn't feel cheap or flimsy. I've read a few grumbles about the placement of the sub-dials but I don't feel that they make the dial too top heavy, I actually prefer them sitting just above centre.

The only thing that I would change is the date window, I not a big fan of date windows and prefer a dateless dial which would have really suited this watch and would have been more in tune with the 50s chrono's. On the subject of the date window, one small issue I've noticed is that the date does not fully centre within the window, but for me, it's not too much of a game changer and it's something that I can live with.

Overall I'm really impressed with my first CW and can see this watch getting a lot of wrist time!

Congratulations on the new watch, I like you, am new to CW and have to warn you in three weeks I have picked up three watches, so this can be a wallet draining experience and, like you, feel the quality of the watches they make is way way above the price point they are selling at!
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Great pictures! Looks great on the wrist... At 395 what a deal! Was drawn to it when it is as released... But drifted away, until now. Great purchase..

Welcome to the forum.

Great photos and I like the C3 Grand Tourer, a very good looking chrono, very legibile and the date window I think works well with that white on black reverse look.

Thanks all! Yes it’s going to be very hard to try and stick to just owning the one CW watch.

Welcome. That’s a lovely chronograph with a real vintage look. Please do post your excellent photos in the Reference Gallery:

Hi, that’s a fine lookin’ Watch, whilst I agree about the date window don’t get too worked up, after all, if it was perfect you’d only need the one, wouldn’t you?

Big congratulations. Very nice looking watch.
I know what you mean about not being able to stick with one CW watch.
I’m very close to getting my second after buying my first in November.
It’s an addiction for sure.
They make great watches.

Congratulations !
I must say I do love this version and the Morgan versions of the C3 MK3.
It's just that tiny bit too small for my liking sadly.
Great photos of it too.
Enjoy it.
