Further Update - August GTG

CW will be at the World Time UK event taking place at the Sofitel London Heathrow, T5 on 31st August, along with a multitude of other watch brands.

Great location for those in the South East.

It might appear so but I consider Heathrow as somewhere to avoid unless you really have to be there, parking as horrendous, non-existent or costly, trains from the West of Heathrow into Heathrow are lengthy journeys in time as are the buses at about 1hr 20mins or so from Reading which isn't really that far along the M4. I realise that this is a bigger event than just a CW GTG so CW would probably have wanted to attend it anyway and not also have to staff a separate small CW GTG in a main holiday period.

I'll research public transport more as I'd like to attend the event but there'd be much better "London" locations than Heathrow if it wasn't that there is a bigger public watch event there.

£89 for a return flight from Leeds Bradford sounds tempting!

Probably cheaper and quicker than going by train.

I’m on the M4 corridor, closer to Heathrow than Bristol. I’d rather go to Bristol. Rail fare is quite decent if bought in advance.

A lot cheaper than train by the time you’ve got trains out of London across to Heathrow. A lot less hassle too.

Well?

If we can get the right date and venue there is no reason why us Fen Dwellers can't organise our own GTG.

But without the Triumvirate.

Must admit to being a trifle hacked off about this. I won’t be going as I have a coach load of kids to take to France the following day. Would have done Cambridge as it’s only just over an hour.

Guy will the format for the Heathrow GTG be the same format as for Edinburgh, I.e. with a private room, or will it just be visiting the CW stand at the World Time UK event (a bit like when CW used to have a stand at SQP)?

I had never heard of World Time UK so checked out their website. It looks to be a smaller version of SQP, with brands at a more affordable price point than most of the SQP stuff. The list of exhibitors shown on the site (although not clear if it is a list for the August event, or of those who have previously attended) includes a couple of well known brands, as well as the boutique/microbrand stuff.
http://www.worldtimeuk.com/

So whilst no sane person would go anywhere near Heathrow unless going on holiday, there is some logic in the GTG being tagged on to the event, as it may encourage a few to attend with the idea of also getting to see some other brands of interest in addition to CW.

Might be wrong but I can't see this being like the format of the GTGs. I can't imagine CW having a private room at Heathrow - would they have a guard on the door asking if you belonged to the Forum or Facebook group and only allow them in?

Can't see that happening.

I can understand the business reason behind going to this event at Heathrow, it's just a shame the Cambridge GTG was cancelled and replaced by this.
But then if I was a staff member at CW I'd be pleased not to have to work an additional weekend.

STOP PRESS - AUGUST GTG

Belay there ship mates!

I have just spoken with Olivia @ CW and whilst CW will be exhibiting at the World Time UK event @ Heathrow on Saturday 31st August, starting at 5:00pm, they ..
.
.
. . . . . will also be holding a separate GTG, along the lines of the Edinburgh & Manchester GTGs, in Central London (venue TBA) also on Saturday 31st August at, probably, 12:00pm to 4:00pm.

We are all welcome to attend one or the other, or even both. :)

To those that have posted comments about the World Time UK event its location and format etc. I apologise for causing you angst by not posting the full picture in the first place (case of 2 + 2 = 5).

Bring back the Cambridge GTG
Depends entirely on the location within London I think as Saturdays in some (most?) areas can be horrendously busy and even as a Londoner born and bred I would want to steer clear of some places so No Offence taken :D
Plus the new football season will have started so additional bodies on the trains and tubes.
But then, despite being "country", Cambridge isn't exactly peaceful and quiet on any Saturday and even worse in the Summer. Trying parking there on a Saturday.

CW just can't win eh? Maybe they'd be willing to come to my house to do a private showing as that'd be real convenient for me. I might be able to fit a couple of the other Berkshire people in. :problem:
