Is there a way to hide sold listings in the for sale section?

Post by Dclarkwatch » Fri Oct 12, 2018 1:19 pm

I’m trying to find a specific CW (38mm Trident 600 with white dial and black bezel), but get discouraged on the for saw section because so many of the listings have already been sold. I don’t have enough posts to put up a WTB, so I’m hoping there’s at least a way to only see active sales. Thanks in advance

Not sure there is but it's a great question, you check the for sale section and there many sold watches still with active threads, plus one's supposedly still for sale for quite some considerable time yet the thread remains active and not updated.

Maybe needs tidying up or a re-think of some sort? Would be useful to have a sold/archive section where you can at least view the threads somewhere but doesn't clog up (if that's the right term), the for sale area, after all they are no longer 'for sale'.

The sold listings are useful for reference, so it would be useful to keep them visible. Perhaps a way to filter out the sold or withdrawn items rather than outright deletion?

I think that it would be very useful to have an additional folder named "Sold" where all sold items are transferred to.
I wouldn't want them removed or deleted as it is useful to check the prices items sell for to then gauge what price to sell a same/similar item.

In the advanced search dialogue you can use the + and - symbols in front of keywords to search based on keywords that must or must not be included in the search results.

This is an example (note: also selected first post of topics only in search options to further limit results to original first post in forum topic).

I agree they are useful for reference but having both the sold and for sale items in the same folder just looks cluttered.

IIRC this was a question raised some months ago but even then it was considered either that the software couldn't manage that, it wasn't necessary as "it's not difficult to read through to find the un-sold watches" or it would be too much of an overhead for somebody (the administrators?) to move the sold posts into a SOLD Section.

Use this link:

Active still for sale watches
That works well Jon, although perhaps a touch of fine tuning is needed to add 'FS' into the search (used by some listers).

It is also reliant on the OP of a FS topic putting FS or For Sale in their listing. If they just put the make & model of the watch it doesn't get found.

We can call it v0.1 :)

I couldn't find a way to use * to represent "any text", as a query for just any topic without ohpf or sold doesn't work...

Discussion above has been noted.

Following the recent forum software upgrade it may well be possible to create a sub-forum of SOLD listings, which FS posts can be moved to once a watch is sold; thus leaving a 'clean' list (subject to OPs updating their listings when a watch is sold) of available For Sale watches.

This will be investigated.

^^^that would be a very useful feature. Although it would make temptation even more convenient to find :problem:

Is it really that difficult to scan back and find out items that are for sale?

It can be IMO Neil, depending on the device you’re using.
I find that the smaller the device, the greater the distraction.

It would be very good if the software update allows a tidy up so that active for sale items can be separated from sold. It's great that sold items remain visible as market price indicator - extremely useful, and great for browsing.
