Holiday watch quartet

Post by MiniMpi »

It's that time of year again when we head to Spain soon, this day next week actually.

I have contemplated, quite a lot actually, to do an AVO on it and just take ONE watch  ....but I just can't make myself do it.

I was thinking of taking 3 with me..maybe 4...

My thoughts were for 2 or 3 for daytime use on rotation and 1 for night duties, going out etc.

So, strangely for me, I have actually come to a decision on what to take !

Daytime duties :

C60 Trident Yellow 316L 8) which will be on a NATO strap. Obviously ! :D

Image

C60 Trident Titanium V2 which will also be on a NATO strap.

Image

C8 UTC which I'll be swapping a NATO strap to from the 316L when I wear it.

Image

For night time duties I've gone with the C65 MK1 LE.

Louise is taking 2, her C60 Trident 300 Orange Bezel 38mm on a NATO strap for daytime duties and her W60 Coral for night time duties.

Great choices Ferg, the Trident Yellow is made to be a summer holiday watch 8)

Are you planning to go swimming with your watches, if so can you do that with a nato strap? I swam with my Tridents in Spain having put them on a CW rubber and the CW soft touch leather waterproof strap.

I reckon a Nato is the ideal holiday swimming strap, as an alternative to the bracelet. Far more secure than a normal strap. I happily swim in the sea with any of my 100m+ WR watches on NATO or bracelet - not something I would do with any other type of strap.

Yea I realise that Ferg can’t swim. I was trying to convince Patrick to stick his Submarimer or BBs on a NATO and go for in dip in the Sea. :)

Well perhaps not his Submariner, as I reckon a 114060 looks sh**e on a NATO and is best left on it’s bracelet!

I don't really have any natos apart from the BBN one so wasn't sure if they were WR.

Swim with my sub or BB's  You'd think they were divers with that sort of talk

Really just bring one watch. It’s liberating after a day of agony.

Back in my vintage days “doing an AVO” meant wearing a wristwatch and a pocket watch at the same time. I’m happy to resurrect the expression as a reference to just taking one watch on a trip.

Not having to worry about what was in my cabin bag, going through airport security and so on was very liberating. As was not having to worry about a watch or two in the room safe. My holidays are a deliberate escape from any kind of formality so having just the Trident GMT worked in any situation in Greece and also on a week-long school trip to France which was a very relaxed environment.

But, we are not all the same so a thumbs up from me for your excellent selection. More importantly, I hope that you and Louise thoroughly enjoy your trip.

Why take more than one?
More to lose, worry about.

I take just one “nice” watch and I have a breaten up 20 year old waterproof Citizen for around the pool and beach. No worries about scratching or losing it.
