Special Edition CWL

Post by oberonfoto »

I know there are a few Special Edition CWLs out there. The Submarine one, the 35th Engineer Regiment Limited Edition, the Harrier watch for the boys in Crab Fat Gray, Liverpool Pilots, sure I've seen a Royal Corps of Signals one as well, but what others?

It stands for London, which is a slight stretch as their base in Maidenhead is 30 miles away.

Didn’t they used to be in London and dropped it after they fled the capital?

^^ Think they've always been in the greater Maidenhead area. London was used on the dials in the early days - in the same way as Bremont use it - even though they are based in Henley.

If you look at a large-scale map, Maidenhead/Henley is virtually London anyway... :D

Cookham is also the home of the late great artist Stanley Spencer. The village hosts a permanent exhibition of his work in a converted chapel. A little way down from the gallery there was once a small jewellery store and it’s where I first learnt of a local watchmaker called Christopher Ward.

And (Sir) Stanley Spencer's ashes are buried by the footpath through the Church that featured so prominently in his work. Glad to see I am not the only admirer of one of the UK's great artists here! I used to pay a silent homage before I wandered along that stretch of the Thames on my way to Marlow.
