CW Serial Numbers

Post by Regular_Time »

Good Morning all,

It's been a long time since I posted anything, so thought I'd ask a question that I've been having some thought over if I may. Would you buy a CW watch specifically for a certain serial number maybe, or specifically avoid it if it had a certain serial number also? :?

For me it depends if its limited edition or not. If its LE I am quite interested in the serial number and will try and get something with a 7 in it - otherwise I am not really that bothered (mainly because on non-LEs the serial number is a longer string of digits and is not as prominent on the back of the watch)
I was standing on the edge of the world...and I can't see it.

i joined the forum after i bought my C11, and started this thread to try and find some significance to the serial number after the fact. it was a brilliant conversation - an example of why the forum just rocks 8)

Thanks, that's a great little thread. For some reason I never saw that on doing a search.

My initial thoughts myself spurred from seeing a watch for sale with a serial number that some might have feelings over, one way or another, but the price was rather good.

^^ what others think of your chosen serial number is of no importance at all. truth is i suspect that most people don't find serial numbers significant at all, so wouldn't give your choice of number any further thought. but if serial numbers are important to you then owning a watch with a significant number might just place a big smile on your face! :D

Agree MissF. Sometimes it can enhance the watch significantly in your own head but it wouldnt bother anyone else! With the #77 I spoke about earlier....what made it even better for me was that I had purchased the very last watch for sale from Wera via email so it was one of those happy coincidences when it came and the number was #77 - almost like it was meant to happen!!!

That is really nice that it all fitted nicely into place for yours.

Funny, I need to now go and check the serial on my C5 Slimline2. I seem to have gotten 0686. No direct significance to me, but it seems a nice number though. I had the option of two when I purchased this, and never actually looked at the serial on either at that point.

When I look at watches I have never paid any attention, in the past to serial numbers, but now you have planted that thought........hmm this could start something.

Oops, sorry

I think the sentiments above about not worrying seem like a great idea to me. I wish it had never come into my head at all. :silent:

No worries, I suppose over time I will just unthink this but for now I am obsessing which serial numbers would I really want, like 007, 77, 001 or 999 or 666 or.............

Crap! Here we go.

To my mind, if it is a regular production watch then I'm not fussed but if an LE, which gives you the opportunity to get a memorable serial number, then yes I'll try and make it memorable.

My family bought me a C30 LE for my 40th birthday a few years back.

Given my birthday is 9th May, I opted for 409/500 - 40 on 9/5......although it wasn't in 2000 :problem:

Yeah - it doesn't get as much wear as it should do tho - only really comes out for family gatherings.

Just got the bracelet for it to change thing up a bit so that may change things for the better.
