What do Chr Ward fans think of the C40 Speedhawk?

Post by i20sailor »

New to this forum, mostly active on other watch forums.

Just curious what members think of the C40 Speedhawk regarding quality, value retention, appeal, etc.

Hard to find much info on this model.

Thanks!

I've had mine since it was first released in 2009. I've never had any problems with mine. As to quality the finish is very good. They seem to sell when they come up for sale. Given the price when new, under £500, they seem to hold their price but check on the sales corner. As to the watch my taste has moved on a bit. I now find that the bezel is too heavy given the size of the face. Consequently I prefer it on a strap rather than a bracelet. Although as CW,'s first 7750 release I'm still attached to it.

I had wanted one since I first saw them, but by then they had gone out of production.

However, a WTB last month brought about the opportunity to buy one, and I am now a proud owner - and I don't regret it for a minute, it is everything I expected and more

On the tall side due to the wobbler movement, yet I find mine well-balanced on the bracelet - at the end of the day, we're not all the same (see above) but YMMV

I've owned one, but no longer have it due to the height (no 7750 based watch will be svelte), but that's down to my personal preferences for a slimmer watch. I've worn it on a bracelet and straps and I think they look fantastic either way. I think they're a great looking watch though and the dial is something that's particularly attractive.

ive owned 3 or 4 at various points. Love them, but obviously not quite enough to be a true keeper for some reason. Not quite sure why.

A more realistic marker of sales value / prices of all CWL watches can be found on http://watchroll.com/.

A good quality automatic chronograph. Quite large, tall and heavy - but that's fine if that is what you're after. Should hold value reasonably well at today's used prices - if bought carefully. Like many CWLs of the time, the crystal distorts heavily when viewed at an angle - but some find that an attractive feature.

I was a relative late comer to the C40 club, only getting mine last October - a terrific deal from a fellow enthusiast. I really like the watch - the overall design, size & weight - one of CW's finest in my opinion, and something they gave up on rather too quickly. If you can get one at a sensible price I doubt you will be disappointed.
Cheers

Paul

Other than the fact I got mine a little earlier this is word-for-word my answer to the question!

Thank you for all the input. So, what would be considered a reasonable price for one of these? I have seen the one on eBay for 1500 pounds. That does not seem like a reasonable price.

I recently did a lot of research as I am looking for a black IPK Speedhawk.

I reckon a decent selling price for an IPK on eBay would be around £450. They can go for as little as £375.

The stainless steel versions can command much better prices - sometimes over £600, but they have also sold for under £400.
