General Servicing & Battery Replacement
General Servicing & Battery Replacement
Evening guys and gals,
I’m sure this has been broached many times before so apologies in advance for not being able to spot the thread previously, but here goes,
Is there any benefit to having batteries changed/watch serviced by CW themselves on the run of the mill stuff. In my case a C6 and 2 C5s. None of them are automatic or cosc so not specialist by any stretch. I’d obviously like with the C6 to be sure it’s still sealed and waterproof given it is by nature a diving watch.
Thanks in advance.
Ki

Re: General Servicing & Battery Replacement
If you are after waterproofing, and if you intend to use the watch for more than just the occasional dunking in the sink when washing the dishes, then I would definitely send it to CW for a new battery.
I have a couple of local jewellers who use from time to time. One does have access to a pressure tester, but not on site and so needs to send watches away to get them done. They will also only test to 100m pressure. There is usually a ten day turn around for this, but there is also a six month guarantee which is quite reassuring.
However, when my 300 eventually needs a new battery I would only consider sending it to CW. I do take mine in the pool and also in occasional sailing days so I would just feel that little bit happier with full manufacturer backup behind me.

Yep, agree with that. Service is good (Just make sure the receipt email they send has the correct details!) And at £15 for the battery it's a good price (local and national jewellers are are £45 plus).

Re: General Servicing & Battery Replacement
My local watch shop charges £4 for a battery.
Id wouldn't send a quartz for a service. There's practically nothing to service.
If like others have said, you want to have it pressure tested then I would but that's only because CW won't supply new seals anyway so you have no choice.

that is for a pressure tested battery change. Would be interested to know the range of prices for pressure tested battery changes thoughStrappedUp wrote:Jeepers, you must stop spec'in those gold plated, diamond encrusted batteries!Kansas City Milkman wrote:local and national jewellers are are £45 plus

I had 20 G-shock battery changes, seal checks and pressure tests done this year. (All 20 were sent in at the same time and pressure tested to 200m)Kansas City Milkman wrote:that is for a pressure tested battery change. Came to 300 quid all told, so averaged 15 quid a shot, although I think I got a bit of a discount!

Re: General Servicing & Battery Replacement
Full service, new battery, reseal and pressure test on a C6 Kingfisher at CWL cost me around £60 inc VAT last year.
Considering the OP's Kingfisher is of indeterminate history, I advocate a good investment.

£15 A pop for the G shocks. Impressive negotiation skills. 20 g shocks though! That's some collection

Alas, it isn't quite as nice as it sounds......STodd wrote:Nick, the more I read, the more I believe your loft is not actually a loft...are you sure its not a showroom?!smegwina wrote:I had 20 G-shock battery changes, seal checks and pressure tests done this year. I worked in the far East for a while and those that weren't Japan only LE were extremely cheap! [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND SMILING EYES]
Normally they are a bugger to change the battery on, but I found a little place that has a pressure tester and just does them as a job lot.
I must confess that no negotiations occured! I said how many I had, and he just said 15 Quid each.

Re: General Servicing & Battery Replacement
I had CW change the battery and service one of my C7 Rapide MkIIs in May of this year and it cost £99 + 7.95 P&P.
I changed the battery myself on the other C7 Rapide MkII earlier this month and the Renata battery cost me £1.19.
Of course I haven't take into account the cost of acquiring the right tools to do the job, and no service element was involved.

Ah but if you did, I'm sure you'd still be way out in front? Unless you charge VAT and need to actually make a profit and pay income tax on said profit, I suppose?statto wrote:I had CW change the battery and service one of my C7 Rapide MkIIs in May of this year and it cost £99 + 7.95 P&P.

Statto (or anybody on here who may be able to help for that matter) - Can I ask, what type & size screwdriver did you use on your C7 battery replacement ?statto wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2017 12:40 pm I had CW change the battery and service one of my C7 Rapide MkIIs in May of this year and it cost £99 + 7.95 P&P.

I've got a limited watch tool kit, which has some fairly small screwdrivers, but even they seem too big for the screws holding down the battery on the C7.
Of course I could take it to the local jewellers to get done, but would like to do it myself if I can.
