Inspired by Blancpain Fifty Fathoms...coming Spr. 2018
Just read this ad in "Loupe"...anyone heard about this? Or is this old news?
Looks like a design I can really get on board with.

Yeah, it was in the chat with Chris and mentioned in a few other threads.
Could be interesting.
However, manual wind on a waterproof watch seems a bad idea (I appreciate it's vintage).
Also, there seems to be a lot of markers:
Sub-second
Second
Longer applied 5 minute
Bezel seconds all the way round
Whereas the Fifty Fathoms has always been about clarity and simplicity.
See their own modern version, a thing of beauty.

I think CW should concentrate on creating their own design, rather than copying someone else's, however they choose to dress it up.
They haven't the history to do a 'Blancpain' and revisit and update iconic designs, so why not just keep revising and updating the Trident?

i dont think its got anything to do with Blanpain's design, to me its just another vintage inspired dive watch. to me the article just reads as they are crediting Blancpain with doing it first.

^^^^^ I agree Greg. I think it's just that the marketing department have read a few more articles and realised that it was Blancpain, rather than Rolex who were first to the party.
Most are probably unaware of Blancpain's dive history and also not name checking Rolex means less Rolex clone comments.
Still the thread has given me the chance to post a wrist shot.
Not my watch unfortunately, as they were all reserved long ago. Still we can all dream and hope they issue a non LE version, without the moisture thingy.

Yep, I agree - looks to have little to do with Blancpain or their particular aesthetic, but is just an angle that some canny CW marketing employee has chosen to hang their hat on for the new model (though not that canny, as 65 years is quite an odd milestone to plump for).golfjunky wrote:i dont think its got anything to do with Blanpain's design, to me its just another vintage inspired dive watch. to me the article just reads as they are crediting Blancpain with doing it first.
I quite like the sound of the new model though - I like hand-wound movements, and if it's (hopefully) slimmer & smaller than the Trident (almost in a skin diver fashion) it would be welcome. Chuck in the slim bezel and maybe a box crystal, and it could be a looker.

It looks like it's inspired by the Oris Sixty Five. But hand-wound? No thanks, I'll pass..
