Whew! I've finally finished reading the whole thread.

Lots of rehashing of previous arguments on both sides regarding logo, customer service, rising prices, etc. It was pretty much "same old, same old" to me until around page 6 or 7 when there was that offhand comment about whether people in the Far East could pronounce "Christopher" or not. Whoa. :shock:

As someone living in the region, that seems to be extreme stereotyping. It's "Christopher" after all, an English name that is not uncommon, not "Jaeger-LeCoultre". A fair number of Asians take on English names.

Anyway... moving on.

This forum has never been focused only on CW watches, and all watch lovers are welcome there. To me the forum provides great information and education on the topic of watches in general, as well as being a good place to hang out. People may decide to move away from CW watches for various reasons (e.g. raising funds, CW being only a stepping stone to the next level in watches, pruning the collection to bare essentials, etc) but hopefully will still find this forum a comfortable place.

The only reason for the above that puzzles me is where someone will say "oh, I'm so disappointed by:
a. the new logo [NB. saw this reaction after the version 2 logo was released as well];
b. CW's new direction/higher prices;
c. the terrible customer service and quality control;
d. poor and non-integrated website,

that I can no longer enjoy or love my own CW watch",

even though their own CW watch:

1. does NOT use one of the logos they are unhappy with;
2. doesn't have quality issues nor was it previously affected by any CS issues;
3. was bought at a price he/she was happy with;
4. he/she actually enjoyed it a lot before the [fill in the blanks] happened.

That really seems to me to be cutting off the nose to spite the face.

Nail - head. Post of the thread! :clap: :clap: :thumbup:

To use a parallel with another brand it would be like owners of 5 digit reference sports Range Rolex deciding to sell them because they didn't like the current 6 digit maxi case, maxi dial models that have replaced them. Somehow it just doesn't seem to happen. :lol:

Great post.

We change, CW changes. Always likely that there'll be some divergence. As long as that's accompanied by tolerance and respect then we're all good here.

Yes, that was probably me and I live in the region as well. You may not be stereotyping, but you are generalising. I actually put it to the test. It was quite amusing really, in a nice, fun way. Bit like me trying to pronounce some Thai names and places that it's hard to get your tongue around. Which is not helped by the language having 44 consonants, 32 additional vowels and 5 tones (1 down, 1 'neutral' and 3 up). So that difficulty works both ways. Ch is a difficulty for Thai's I know, including my other half - well educated and otherwise pretty fluent in English. They largely pronounce it as Sh, thus Cherry becomes sherry.

To be honest, I thought it came across as rather dismissive and derogatory, and stereotyped people in the region based on (perhaps) just people in Thailand.

But the grapheme CH in Christopher is pronounced KR in English, as opposed to TCH in cherry.

However, I think it's only a matter of fact to acknowledge that speakers of one language may, in general, have difficulty with the sounds of another that do not occur in their language.

Many, but by no means all, people from England cannot say Loch, Gijón or Scheveningen.

By the same token many non-native English speakers cannot say The, There and This.

Well said AVO, I was trying to say similar while keeping it impersonal and failing.

I don't recognise Gijón or Scheveningen so I would certainly confuse a native speaker if I tried to pronounce them, though I may be physically capable...
