White faced C3 on a bracelet hits the mark for price - quartz movement but interesting face, classic styling that won't date, not too big & will suit casual or business use.

C7 also a good call with bracelet option bang on £300 with discount code.

Don't forget if you spend over £300, you can use the £50 voucher.
Not sure he has a voucher?
Yes I do have some vouchers but trying to not make that sway me.

It is my sons 40th soon and my ex wife has asked that we spend no more than £300 each on him.

My son has intimated to his wife that he would not mind a watch.

I have said that I will buy this as me ex has agreed on a different gift.

Style and makes etc there are no preferences.

I cannot recall my son wearing a watch before.

I am drawn to a CW Trident 300 but am open to any suggestions for best value makes or styles but I suppose it needs to be a new watch.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

I have purchased a few very nice pre-owned watches for approx $400, which is in your range. With box and paper they look new. All retail for $1500. Oris, Raymond Weil (2) . Also there are cw on ebay that look new. I would also recommend the clearance slimline. Love mine. Don't be afraid of preowned. Great value. Much more for the money. Good luck

Can you wait until the Tridents are -50% when they have to get rid of them to make way for the new logo versions.

The slim lines are nice but restricted in their versatility. I'll echo the Seiko suggestions and go further to suggest a model: SARB033. Excellent value for money watch that punches way above its weight in performance for price paid. Plenty good reviews available through Google

So my son will be happy with any watch but he would prefer leather or rubber bracelet
